I really had a terrific test ride on the FJR1300, the dealer suggested a 30 mile loop and I got lost by 10 miles so ended up almost going 50 miles.

The FJR was very fast and agile, I did have a ball with it.

But for this 67 year old I felt the ST was a little smoother ride & smoother engine. I think the FJR leans a little more to the "sport" side and the ST leans a little more to the "tourer" side.

In the end it is what you prefer. I really appreciate all the help I received from you all on the FJR Forum.

Thank you,

Ken :D

Many STs out there Hill. Triumph, BMW, Honda, to name a few.

I kick out the Triumph as you went for something on the "Tourer" side.

So if it's between the Honda and BMW I'll guess Honda as you are 67.

You are right it is the ST1300, I should have made that clear. I had named all the bike models on here when I was out demo riding. I figured everyone knew what I was thinking, you know what they say when you assume!! Yo!!

In earlier posts I had ruled out the Connie 14 & was dueling between the FJR1300 & the Honda ST1300.

It's all good, just remember to wrap your nutt's in insulation, the ST's going to cook them well done! It's why I ride the FJR, but I really liked the V4 my old ST1100 had. Smooth! Have fun, at least your still riding my brother!

I agree with your assessment, but at 39, I'll take the little more sport in my sport-touring. Here's to hoping you have many happy and safe miles on your new scoot.

Doesn't matter what you ride, as long as you ride :) Enjoy!

Traitor!!! Banish him!!!!!!

Kidding. That V-4 is reputed to be very sweet. Never rode one, don't know personally, but the V-4 has some real advantages in vibration. Also, that thing is supposed to be nigh indestructible.

Ken, thanks for posting this.

When I was your age, I faced the same decision, and ended up going with the FJR for

for an equally practical reason.

On my test ride, I was at a stoplight,

and a pretty gal in the car beside me said, "Nice bike!"

Put it on the sidestand right there, and wrote out a check.

See you on the road.

:D

Ken, I agree with your assessment entirely and that's the same way I felt when I chose the FJR over the ST1300. Having primarily owned Hondas I really wanted to love the ST1300 but coming off a CBR1100XX Blackbird the ST1300 felt more "tour" than sport and the FJR more "sport" than tour and for me the "sport" was what I was looking for. The ST is a great bike and I have a friend who rides one and hasn't complained about heat issues or anything else. Enjoy your new bike. Good luck and ride safe!

A fellow Rider Coach here in PA is 86 and going strong. He has both a Gold Wing and an '06 FJR. He does prefer the Gold Wing when on long trips...I think he pulled over 60,000 miles last year. Half of that was the Gold Wing though.

This guy is truly my motorcyclist hero!

Either way, congrats on the new ride and enjoy!

Ken, you did the right thing. If that was the one that worked for you, that was the one you should have bought.

Of course, you know we will want a few updates on your likes and dislikes after you put some miles on.

Enjoy the new ride!

A few weeks ago, I did a long ride with a friend who has an ST1100. During the ride, we swapped the bike. I couldn't believe how smooth the ST was. At 5,000 RPM, I couldn't hardly feel the engine. It's a great bike. It look a little more muscle to turn the bike, but overall, I was impressed how well it rode being such a heavy bike. My friend, who rode my FJR couldn't stop commenting how well it handled. He knew about the FJR's power band and was not surprised, but the neutral feel on the handling surprised him.

I agree that the FJR is more on the sports end than the touring end. That's why I bought it.

OM...... that was what..... 17 or maybe 18 years ago , right......... :D :D :D

Interesting.

When I rode the SV, no one ever commented on the bike. In just a few weeks, more than a few strangers, including women have commented on my FJR.

Whatever floats YOUR boat! I rented a well-used ST1300 from EagleRider in Miami in March and rode it down to Key West and back.

I didn't like it quite as much as I liked my old ST1100, but it is a well-built machine. Enjoy - and don't be a stranger here!
