I had an Audio Boss on my old bike. To put it plainly, it sucked! When I compare it to the Starcom1 I have now, I mean it REALLY sucked! We're talking chrome off a trailer hitch type of suckiness.

How/why did it suck? Sound quality, terrible. Volume, even worse. Signal prioritization, terrible. The sound would cut in and out randomly. There was no noise cancellation in the mic, so the wind noise for talking on the cell phone would be the only thing people would hear. It was just an all round not good system.

The good parts. The helmet connection appears to be very similar in design to the Starcom1, weather proof 6 pin din type connector.

However, Autocomm has a newer unit called the ST-1 or something like that which is supposed to not suck as bad. But, after my lack of luck with the Audio Boss, I wasn't interested in trying the ST-1. I have the same set up you have (Zumo, cell phone, etc) and for not too much more, got the Starcom1 from Jeff with the forum discount. I couldn't be happier!

I believe you mean Motocomm and not Autocom. Autocom makes great systems - so good in fact that they are anti-sucky to the point of having repulsion technology. :D

For good comm systems look no further than Starcom or Autocom.

You're right, I meant Motocomm.

Autocom was my next choice after Starcom. In fact, there are only two reasons I didn't go with the Autocom. 1- Forum discount on the Starcom. 2- With Jeff's help, I knew EXACTLY what to get. With the Autocom, every dealer I went to was confused as to what parts to get to make it work, and when they did think they got it right, it was a lot more money.

Just to throw in a different point of view, I have the AudioBoss and it works fine for me.

I'll agree it's not on the level of the other systems (so they say), but then again, you're not paying two or three times the money.

I have my Garmin 2730, Valentine and GMSR routed through it and here's the way I have the unit set up that works

(1) I use earbuds instead of the stock speakers.

(2) I use a toggle to talk switch, not the supplied PTT or the VOX.

Just my 2-cents.

ps. I also found their customer service to be GREAT! Had an issue with a mic, and they replaced the entire mic, speaker assembly no questions asked.

pps. I do wish sometimes it could run off of bike power instead of batteries, but it's not that big of an issue.

Good riding.

Keith at Tulsa Truck center sells Autocom at great discounts and sometimes has factory incentives for closeout prices. He knows all about the system and will never steer you wrong. I have bought two systems and accessories from him in the past and got exactly what I was needed very promptly. Plus if you just need info he is more than willing to advise even if you don't buy from him. +1 Mike in Fremont, Ca.

Have to agree. Keith spent quite a bit of time with me and I did not buy at the time. I really like the guy from my conversation and if you get Autocomm, he is your man. After having talked to Bike Effects Jeff, another great guy, I prefer his system and will go with him when the time comes.
