Count me and my wife in. I have been recovering from shoulder surgery and have been dying for a ride

Heads up, NorCal!Ride To Eat in Andrew's memory as we approach the one-year anniversary of his demise.

The plan is to have lunch at the place where we met Andrew's daughter. It has changed owner and name.

Lunch Stop:

O'Connor's Santa Maria Grill & Catering

9267 Greenback Lane, #A-1

Orangevale, CA 95662

Beginning Point, 10:00 AM:

Starbucks

4313 Town Center

El Dorado Hills, CA

Hwy 50 @ Latrobe Rd. Just South of Hwy 50, turn Left at the signal into the shopping center, Starbucks is on the left, across from the Chevron.

The Route:

Kickstands up @ 10:30.....firm!

North on El Dorado Hills Blvd., Rt. on Green Valley Rd., veer left on Lotus Rd. to Hwy 49.

South on Hwy 49 to L on Hwy 193 to Georgetown. L on Main St., Left on Marshall Rd. down Marshall Grade to Hwy 49. North on Hwy 49 to Pilot Hill, Left on Salmon Falls Rd. to R. on Green Valley/Natoma Rd. through Folsom, R. on Riley St. across the arched bridge and up the hill, bear right on Greenback Lane about 3/4 mile to O'Connor's on the right (just past Main Ave. and the Dairy Queen).

It's only about 75 miles and should take 2 hrs. plus any stop we might make.

Options:

I MIGHT leave Elk Grove earlier than the 1 hr. necessary and take another route to Starbucks.

I'm thinking about heading to Sutter Creek, taking Church St. (Sutter Creek-Volcano Rd) to Volcano, R on Shake Ridge Rd. up Rams Horn Grade and L on Fiddletown Rd. through Plymouth and R on Latrobe Rd.

This would add 90 miles/2 hrs. onto the morning ride (Not a problem for those who are early risers.) but they are all some of the Ya-freakin'-haw roads Andrew liked. If anyone is interested in this early version, we should probably meet in Elk Grove around 0700-0730 or Sutter Creek around 0815-0830....well, you know the drill, let me know and we can arrange meet points if you wish to join in.

More Options:

I'm assuming there are those who might like to ride after lunch so there is plenty of time for anything further you might like to arrange.

Other Websites:

If anyone wishes, please feel free to let other websites know they are welcome to join us. ST.n, Pashnit, Adv Rider, etc. We are not platform specific but rather want to honor our friend by enjoying some of the roads and people he did.

The only thing I ask is we get some kind of head count. This is a smallish place and I've spoken with the owner. If I can give him some kind of idea of how many people he will start cooking the meat (everything is cooked over an open pit) for our arrival and put on an extra person or two to help through our lunch rush. Thanks.

I've posted over on a couple of forums that Andrew was active on. I think I may try to make this one. :)
That would be waaaay kewel!

Would you please do me a favor? Would you up date me as to the response to the RTE. I really would like to give the people at O'Connor's a "head's up" as to how many they might expect.

Right now we are @ 27 (plus or minus 2). If we are to expect 10-15 more it would be nice to know so they can prepare the meat beforehand and be ready for us. Thanks.

Happy to oblige, sir. B)

I'll see if I can get free that Saturday. Hope the food is still as good.

Here are some pics from last year's lunch there. Hard to believe it's already been a year... :no2:

Though I am not much of a group rider, I am definitely interested in trying to make this memorial ride. I thank RoxxieRae for bringing it to my attention and hope to be able to join!! Thanks!

Holey Moley.....we're at 29 people on 20 bikes! And who knows how many others may join us?

BTW, I have the routes in my mapsource program. If you want them, send me a PM with your email and I'll send them to you.

Since there are so many bikes, we simply MUST divide the mass-group into more manageable sized groupings.

As an alternative, some of you who know the roads could volunteer to lead some folks "backwards". That is: Go straight on Salmon Falls Road up the hill and jog over to Marshall Grade and North on Hwy 193 to R on Hwy 49, etc., etc.

With a little luck, the group might rendezvous back at that intersection and head into Folsom. :yahoo: That might be fun....to pass part of our group heading the other direction knowing we are all meeting at the same place! :clapping:

I'm just thinking "in type".......

Mike, what's the ETA for lunch? I'll be heading straight there from home - will be leaving about 03:00 hours.
IF we can get everyone moving by 10:30....IIRC, in the first post I said, Kickstands up, 10:30 firm!"

It's about a 1 1/2-2 hour loop, depending on if and where one stops to stretch/hydrate/powder-one's-nose, etc.

My best guess: 1230-1300.

Yep, I been wondering about the size of this group (you know how I am about that kinda thing), and was starting to consider a 10 am rendezvous at the Starbucks followed by a solo around the hills ending at the Santa Maria BBQ. I like the idea of going opposite directions with the groups, though.

I'm going to have to be Led, for I know Not where else I go...unless I entertain myself as usual :cowboy: ?

Also, those of us (ahem..!) who are coming from a distance, will have to keep an eye on the weather. So far it looks "good" for next Friday/Saturday Nov. 7 & 8. Sunday Nov. 9 has some showers predicted for CenCalCoast.

...just a..."headz up" bullitin?

Just for fun....and for those who don't have a GPS but would like a map:

Google Maps Link

You'll have to increase the size of the map to see that "B" and "H" are the same intersection, but this map and directions would get you to follow the planned route or, should you get lost, get you back on track or to the diner.

Rich, I think it would be lovely if you'd consider leading a group in the "anti" direction. You know the roads and are capable of riding a steady, interesting pace.

Besides, riding "up" Salmon Falls Rd. is easier, Marshall Grade is fun either direction and Hwy 193 South from Georgetown is the direction I last rode that with Andrew (And Bluestreek...now THAT was interesting wasn't it, Steve?).

Either direction, the pastoral/provincial landscape and scenery will be a nice experience.
