Despite the recent discussion of Avon Storms and problems associated with them, I am going to give them a try. I run pilot powers, which is a little excessive for an FJR, but they have been great. Only problem is they are done in 3000 miles.

I didn't want to go to the pilot roads because I do ride hard in the twisties, and on all the threads I have seen, the roads are good, but not great when it comes to handling.

I'd like to try the pilot road 2ct, but I'm not sure if they are available yet, and I want the tires for this weekend.

I thought about the stradas, but same deal, I couldn't get them for this weekend.

Hopefully I won't be dissapointed, if anything, I'll burn through them and try something different. I'm sure it's been discussed but how many miles should I expect on the rear?

No more than you expect from Stradas or Pilot Powers. The compound seems to be about the same and the tread depth is not significantly greater.

crap.... For some reason I thought that the storms would last longer. Maybe I will just stick with the powers. It's probably not too late to call back and change.

Edit*** Too late to switch. Hope they don't suck!!!

I have the PP2CT on the front of mine........it's been on there since last Oct. I have the PR on the rear...put it on at the same time I put on the PP2CT...................I like the set up for my riding style, obviously not as aggressive as yours however.

Have about 5k on this set so far, looks like I will get about 8-10k

??????I thought the storms were comparable in mileage (+/-) to the pilot"ROADS" The pilot "POWERS" wear significantly faster.

I got about 5000 miles on my first rear Storm but they were awesome handling miles. I'm noticing cupping on the front at 6000 miles. I tend to accelerate/decelerate too fast & attribute that to the short life. I don't do burnouts etc. but with a lighter throttle hand the mileage should increase a few thou for me at best. All but the center 2 or so inches were still excellent. Probably buy another set . . .

I'm taking this opportunity to begin a campaign of countering this "guilt trip" too commonly associated with accel/decel too fast. I too have "caught grief" on this forum and fallen into the trap of feeling badly about how I handle my machine.

So now I publicly declare... "I didn't buy an FJR to putt around on!"

That doesn't mean that I intend to sit idly by while tire manufacturers continue to shorten the life expectancy of the rubber I buy. I'll continue to push for longer tire life and better handling tires.

But as far as I'm concerned, the only shortcoming is in the tire's ability to handle the horsepower that I can both deal out and get rid off. Let them eat cake!

I ride the piss out of mine every chance I get and expect to get low mileage until the tire companies can do a better job(not likely). I'm with you, Didn't buy it to pose on . . . .

The Storm rate of wear is identical to the Azaros, IMO (I can't answer to the Stradas or Powers). However, the evenness of the wear is outstanding, again, IMO.

Now thats the kind of information I can use! Thanks TWN

Seems like these dual compounds are going in the wrong direction for me. I need something that corners all it's life and doesn't wear to a point. The line for those tires starts right next to the one in hell for ice water.

I just put a new rear storm on my bike...here are my stats so far on the Azaros vs the Storms (rear only)..

3-16-06 - rear Azaro odometer reading:6032

8-1-06 - rear Azaro odometer reading:15650 ; mileage 9618 on previous Azaro

1-27-07 - rear STORM odometer reading:25132; mileage 9482 on previous Azaro

4-25-07 - rear STORM odometer reading:33150; mileage 8018 on previous STORM

As you can see, I got significantly less mileage on the STORM...not good. Hoping the one I put on today gets back into the mid to upper 9K range like the old Azaros did.

Well, 8000 is wayyyyyy better than 3000. With the pilot powers, (not pilot roads) there is almost no tread left after 3200 miles.

If I can get 5000-6000, I'd be really happy as long as the tire doesn't have the "issues" that some are reporting.

I ordered Storms, also... regardless of the threads saying what a crap tire this is. I've been faithful to Avon so far. I'm going to give these a try. If I don't like them, I won't use them again. Simple as that.

From looking it over, I don't think there are that many people who hold the opinion that the tires are crap. Remember that the total number of people on this forum with Storms probably haven't chimed in. Some are perfectly happy with them. It is very possible the pepole who are having issues got bad tires.

Oh, it's all about how Jeff Ashe likes to stir a pot, anyway. Are his latest posts about tires??? Hey Jeff, I bought Avons!!!

DISCLAIMER: Jeff is my friend. If anyone thinks that I am giving him a hard time........ I am.

EDIT: OMG! I just realized that I'm on my 999th post. One more and I'm to the big 1000!

I know a BUNCH of people that are more than happy with them. All tires from all manufactures have a few bad eggs in the batch. Remember, motorbikes are HARD on tires. There's a reason they only last a few K miles vs. a car tire. That kind of stress is going to exploit the inevitable small variations in production quality from ANY manufacturer and cause a few problems.

The storms are great tires, you won't be sorry.

I have about 2K on my Storms and I'm having no problems ( :headbonk: ). In a couple weeks I'll give them a REAL workout and then report back. They may be toast by the time I get back from riding the chip and seal around Hooterville with Smitty141.

But so far, so VERY good!

I've got a set of Storms ready to put on my FJR when the Azaro's finally wear out. Which should be in a couple of thousand miles. 9k out of a set isn't too bad!
