I went north this last weekend, to the state sandwiched between CA and Washington.
Though I've lived next door to Oregon for a long time, I've only traveled through it on a
a couple of occasions, most recently a few years ago on the way back from my Green Bay trip.
Well I should have gone sooner. The parts I visited are just beautiful.
The route - Day One
Up 5, (quick stop near Redding at Keswick Dam), then on to Ashland. East from there on 66,
north by Hyatt Lake and over to Upper Klamath (37,140, and 34) over to Crater Lake (62),
and finally 230 to 138 and back east to Roseburg.
Day Two - Up 5 just a bit to 138 west to 38 to the Pacific. Down 101 all the way back to California,
and down to Arcata. Then 299 back to the valley, and a couple of hours on 5 in the dark.
Something like 1300 miles including side trips and exploring. Just right or 2 days.
Here are the pics. (Way too many, I know, but I can't help it.)
I got three more dams for my Dam Tour thing.
Here's the first, at Keswick Dam near Redding.
Then on up the road past Lake Shasta.
(See the houseboaters over there?)
Still early morning, and they're probably already hammered.
Whatzat up there?
Stopped in Yreka for a hot breakfast. This place does it well.
Into Oregon, and east near Ashland, to find another dam.
Found the lake - Hyatt Reservoir.
And cha-ching! Another dam. Here I come ShinyPartsUp.
Through more of the barren wasteland.
I'll sort this out I reckon.
Oregon has a lotta this...
And as you go east, a lotta this...
Not long before I was approaching Crater Lake from the south.
Quite a sight.
Winter lingers into May here.
But it's not on my dam tour, so I hadda git.
Back into the woods.
At the intersection of 230 and 138, I had one bar showing on my gas gauge, and Ms. Garmin
said the nearest fuel was 20 miles to the east in the community of Chemult  so I had to go back out that way to fill up.
Dammit.
Parts of this place are like Death Valley.....with trees.
Fueled, and back west to another dam and then on to Roseburg.
BTW, 138 is a beautiful motorcycle road, just as Dudewado noted in a recent report of his.
River valleys tend to be that way, and it was almost too much fun tearing through this part
of my trip. Of course I stopped for pics, ...and another DAM! Toketee.
Then on down lovely 138...
A few more pics, and I'll finish day one in a sec. Whew!
