A pretty good ride in under 21 hours. I keep thinking "How the heck am I going to ride a Deca attempt this summer if I can't

finish these in under 20 hours?" … Then I remember that I will be attempting it with an 80 mph speed limit.

My stops will have to be much more efficient though. Hydration system will be mounted soon.

I have changed the Title to this thread. I am still not 100% in on the attempt, but since I am 1/4 of the way there…

I thought I would post up. I will be giving monthly total updates to my progress as the Certs. come in.

So far it looks like this:

January Totals are :

Cert. miles: 7,628 Total OD miles: 8,465

Came up short since I need to average 8,400 Cert. miles per month.

Then this:

February Totals are in: (6 BBGs)

Certificate miles: 9140

Odometer miles: 10,026

Year to date: (11 BBGs)

Certificate Miles: 16,768

Odometer Miles: 18,491

Pace: 16,800 (-32 miles)

Thought I would post this as a "Log/Blog" so if anyone is considering this ride, it could be of use.

NOTE: The actually ride is for 100,000 miles in one year. I am attempting to count only Cert. mileage as a greater challenge for

me. (And to make it much easier on the certification team.)

Jeez, man. You should discuss this with a professional therapist.

Ride safely, brother. How's that Traxxion shock working out?

"Dr. Riding" is my therapist .

The Penske stays rebuilt and safely put away until I decide what rides I am attempting this summer/fall.

Got a little ride planned with my new BMW GSA to Key West, maybe Tony will check in and join us.
Greg, I would love to do the ride with you BUT:

4 hours down / 4 hours back… puts me back just in time to get ready for work.

AND

My health has been an issue and I need it for the rainy ride coming up this weekend.

AND

Seeing your GSA just might tip my decision making process full tilt.

Have a great ride and take a 7 mile bridge photo with your new girl !

Yesterdays ride was a pleasant surprise. It had all the pre thoughts of a rain filled day, but turned out to be a wonderful

ride. Approaching Jacksonville at 9pm (On pace for a 20 1/2 hour BBG) everything turned difficult. Cars slamming on their brakes

and the flow of traffic coming to a complete stop, let me know the dreamy coasting BBG was over. I sat at a dead stop for around 20 minutes before I realized the next exit was not going to happen. I dismounted my bike and did a quick observation of the median. Looked to be tall grass, a decline then an incline, with no barrier on the other side. I slowly rode the bike cautiously into

the declining ditch then realizing "a mushiness" I goosed the throttle and squirted to the other side and was on my way.

The detour feature worked great on the Zumo 550 and I was soon making my way through country roads I had never been on before. Soon I entered populated areas, passing a huge building (Amazon) and into the not so friendly areas of Jacksonville to my last fueling before the final push. The pump spit out a bad timed receipt and I went inside for another bad time on a receipt. I completed the ride and ended up in West Palm Beach. I got my Credit card rejected and a "Sale cancelled" notice and an invite to come inside for a conversation with the cashier - I declined. Whipped out my back up credit card and refueled. Now the receipt that ejected was a blank piece of white paper. I got the pump #…13 …what else. Went inside and finally got my final receipt.

20 hours 59 minutes. Not bad for a testing final 4 hour BBG ride.

#19 for the year was in the books and I had a grin on my face at the end of it all.

March Totals:
7 BBGs 10,751 Cert. Miles

YTD
18 BBGs 27,519 Cert. Miles

Pace: 25,200 Miles (+2,319 Miles)
March will most likely be my 3rd highest month this year.
April / May / June I am planning 5 BBGs each month, this would have me at about 50k after 6 months.

#20 BBG for the year is in the books: 20 hours 27 minutes

My GPS mount lost a pin, so I did not use GPS on this ride. I don't use it for directions anyway, but use it as a speedometer.

Pace was good

Storms moving north from the SE created a feeling of surfing ahead of a curl

Night riding was about perfect temps (75 - 77)

…need to do 2 BBGs next weekend.

All this on a 2008 bike. I assume at the end of all this a new bike will be in the planning.

Best of luck my friend.

Most likely a new bike IF the '08 makes it to the end of the year.

I would like to make 250k on the '08, but she is running rough. About 100k behind on a valve check, I feel like

I am playing Russian roulette each ride I venture out on. I have narrowed it down to 3 choices: Yamaha FJR

BMW GSA

Yamaha Tenere

Congrats on the progress!!!

Ive wanted to do my first SS1k for a while now. I've somewhat got a route lined up and am deciding right now (as the sun comes up) whether to go today or next week. I had nearly contemplated doing a BBg for my first Iron Butt, but then realized the cert can only be earned if the rider first did a SS1k or BB in 36 hours.

Anyhow, I admire the miles you are covering!

As for your next steed, I like the idea of a Tenere! I found its comfort hard to beat for long rides, and it's a versatile tool! My next choice would be another FJR. I might elicit scowls for saying so, but, while the GS is a sexy beast, I've heard many stories of rides being cut short due to one problem or another. Such an event could put a monkey wrench in your cert plans!

Safe travels and good luck!

#21 is finished.

Snowbirds heading back up north (Easter Weekend) made for a terrible first 4 hours on I-95.

Stop and go 20 miles each side of Daytona. I started the ride at 11:00 am, so every aspect of the ride sucked.

Temperatures dropped down to 44 degrees and I really had to gut this one out without electrics. Glad I did though!

21 hours and 19 minutes was the bottom line.

Next week two BBGs are a must to stay on schedule. I haven't decided whether to try a BBG3000 or split them up…

BBGs #22 & #23 HAVE to happen this weekend. I have yet to decide on the method I will use to attempt them, but I am leaning toward trying

to start the 1st BBG some time after work Friday. Since I would be tired already, this would be a chance to try a new method of riding until I needed

sleep, then sleeping for a hour or so and completing the ride after the short rest. By doing this I could create enough time in between BBGs to

get some good sleep… Or I could just try a BBG3000.

Either way here is my SPOT: SpotWalla.com - Trip Viewer
