Warchild,I'm new to the FJR as this '06 is my first. I'm really glad to have found this site & see the time you have spent writing up & posting top notch information, Thank You for helping cut my learning curve on this bikes maintenance & upgrades...
No problamo, Robert... that's way the site exists, to hook up fellow FJR pilots with some good tech info that you're just not going to find in official manuals.... B)

I have also installed the PCIII. Big improvement. Commuting though 44 mpg. It's getting too cold in the moriings here for me.

Hi all,

I have an 05 FJR and installed the PC111 to eliminate the surging that occured during cruise. At first it helped a bit but not totally, then I took the bike to a specialist tune up shop and they called Power Commander to ask about the setup and connection. Ha , the original instructions did not say anything about disconnecting the Oxygen sensor, however PC said to disconnect the Oxygen sensor as it does mess with the ECU. So once the O2 sensor was disconnected and a different map was downloaded, the bike now runs as silky smooth as a well balanced electric motor. Gas milage? its my toy who cares, fill her up and ride thats what FJRs are all about. After the new map I ran 5000 kms down through the Blue Ridge, deals gap, up the Ohio valley and back to the land of cold air just before it snowed. Bike ran very smoothly throughout.

So, if you are having surging problems look into the PC111 mod, and do disconect the O2 sensor, Oh ,on the 05 FJR you will not get an error code on the display, so not to worry.

Cheers, Ride Happy. :)

Hello folks I am from Spain my name is Jose Luis and have a 2005 fjr 1300A I bought it new and they are a little moore expensive than in the US ( 14000 Euros about 15000 plus Dollars) never have I experience any of these problems mentioned with the 06 and I allready have put 13000 Kilometers on my bike in 11 months and ussually I go with the bad boys with crotch rockets, but they do not leave me behind,do they seem not to move much on theyr bikes and I am all over like old Randy Mamola! je je. I have work for uncle Sam for 32 years in a us Air force installation here in Spain. Regards to you´ all. pd can some body let me know the price of a power commander? is it really worth it. May the wind be at your faces......

Just less than $300 if you get one from SportbikeEffects and get the forum discount. Shipping would probably be extra. I've got one on my '05 and I think it's a great farkle, worth the money...

My 05 doesn't have any of the vibration buzz problem everyone seems to mention about the 06 + its always deliveres great gas mileage 45-50 even when cruising 80 to 100mph. I do feel some surging at lower rpm's, when I get a PC3 that should go away. I'm glad I have an 05 if YAMAHA messed up the 06, I guess I can live with a little heat every once in a while.

Thank you very much for the reply! by the way I visited Texas a few years ago, what a nice place you have over younder to ride the fjr´s in the hill country!!!

I am considering installing Power Command BUT. I went for a ride today on my 05 and I did not notice any surging ect at cruise. I know the bike is nimble and very throttle responsive. But I did not detect surging. I have owned alot of bikes over 35 years so I do not consider myself a novice. I guess the only way I can be sold on installing a Power Command is ride a FJR that has one. My bike runs perfect and is faster than ****. I am still thinking why mess with it. But I am stil interested.

Click on this link, then go to Yamaha section... about $200. Has anyone tried this?
https://www.techlusion.us/
Yes, and it could not be easier. No computer required. Setting the "pots" is simple and I feel like I have a completely different bike. Smooth throttle response. You can cruise in first or second at 1500 rpm with no lean issues. There is no lean surging while cruising on the highway. Safer in that you cannot take fuel away, only add. You cannot end up in a more lean condition than stock. I have a PCIII on another bike, and it does what it is suppose to do, but it is more expensive than than the Techlusion and demands a lot of tinkering with the laptop to load files. I certainly recommend the techlusion. My version is packaged by Dobek.

It’s the FI mapping, stupid me. Bigger grips help, but only treat the symptom. The PCIII is the cure. IMHO.
Bingo! While the throttle pulley may exacerbate the problem, based on how you all described the symptoms it always seemed to me that the FI mapping was the culprit. (Much like it was on my 04) While I don't think we can say "case closed" quite yet, it sure is encouraging that those of you installing the PCIII are reporting such good results. It's just too damn bad Yammie's stock fuel injection mapping is so piss poor right out of the box.

As for fuel mileage, I think your smoking something funny!

Theoretically, the PCIII should always decrease fuel mileage. With the PCIII you are richening up the mixture - adding more gas for better drivability. More gas used = less fuel mileage. I anal-retentively check my fuel mileage on every fill-up, keeping a little log book. My fuel mileage decreased approximately 10-15% after adding the PCIII. From high 40s to low 40s.

So take some close measurements, because I would think it impossible for the PCIII to increase fuel mileage, or even result in no change.

Glad to here that you found the solution to your problems and that it has transformed your FJR. Great news for you, and hopefully for others out there experiencing the same problems.
Au contraire SkooterG, my poor injured administrator. :p  It is my understanding that with the PCIII fuel can be added OR subtracted. Therefore it would be possible to richen the mixture at say low rpm and lean the mixture at cruise for fuel economy.. Of course tuning it on a dyno by a good tuner would be the best way to go. Iam, however very impressed with the map that came already installed. I don't have a laptop computer and my wife won't let me buy one. Besides I would rather spend the money on really essential stuff, like a bigger windshield and a real cruise control..Then there is the GPS road lights, communications/entertainment center... My list just gets longer. I will, however, try to remember to check my actual milage this week. Took it up in the foothills with a few people from work. Ran beautifully. I think a TBS is in order as there is still some slight surging. (Previously it was major, rock you back and forth, surging.)

But the big thing, the one thing I paid out $300 for, the Herky-Jerky Throttle, IS NO MORE. Smooth as a hot knife through butter!!! :yahoo: :yahoo: :clapping: :D Vibration much reduced! :yahoo: :clapping: Can't wait to see how much more improvement will come once TBS is done.

Chip, did you also buy the plug-n-play wiring harness so that you did not have to splice the unit in? If so, how much was that?

If you look at a PCIII map, it does have negatives in many spots. It's important to remember that it interfaces between the oe ECM and the injectors, hence the problem with the 02 sensor fighting the PC's inputs, and the fact that a map jumps all over the place when viewed as a numbers chart, and it indicates the oe map is oddly programmed, but then it was designed for use with an 02 affecting the ultimate injector pulse width.. Also know that you can display the map, **** with it, save it as a new map, load it, and see what effect your changes made. I did this by combining the Wally map and the Holeshot Header map (Bounce, I have an updated version thats a little nicer yet) with great success-Wally smoothness and ridability down low, Holeshot power on top, the best of both worlds.

I am interested in the Techlusion. What is the Plug and Play wire harness and where can I get it.
I saw it on their web site... possibly under "more information" or "purchase". Click around a bit on the link... you should see it.

I think it would be interesting to see what happens if you take a 05 computer and plug it into a 06 bike. If all the jerking and stuff goes away yamaha has a problem and needs to pony up for some faulty puters. My 05 has never had any of these problems and I get 47mpg on average. If I get any more hp I wont be able to afford the number of rear tires I would burn through in a year.
+1

The worst mileage I ever have seen on my 05 is 44 mpg and that's with very spirited riding.
