This thread died without resolution. I went ahead and sent in my registration form with a request for May 12, 2008 as the first choice and June 9th as the second choice.

Hope to see some of you there.

According to the literature, the ART is "... designed for the student who has at least 12,000 miles of current, on-street riding experience." With "current" being the operative word in that statement, I'm not sure I'd qualify (I've only logged ~3K since returning to riding late last summer). Comments..? (calling mssr. bikerskier..!)

I took the ART on my Triumph Sprint ST two summers ago (on the hottest day of the year...it was freakin' brutal). You spend a couple of hours class time then do some basic drills like you'd find in the IRT. The rest of the day is choosing lines and cornering. You also get the chance to ride the track as pillion with an instructor. I think you'll be fine with 3k since last summer.

As for me, I'd be interested in this again (on the FJR this time), but all the dates are on Mondays. Simply won't work for me.

Another option would be the Lee Parks Total Control Advanced Rider Clinic. Not all the classes have Lee teaching (none of the ones below). INFO

Nearest local ones here in the NW are below. Classes run 9am-7pm. Looks like cost is $295. INFO

Marty

You will do just fine on the ART course and I suspect enjoy it very much. Has anyone been on the WA - Lee Parks course and on the Longview venue?

Memo to self.....must get organized... must make some plans....

Yeah, I think I'd probably do ok (or at least live to tell a few lies about the experience..!), but I was only concerned that someone would call me out as a 20-years-after-the-fact-noob. :p

Geez, these people are soooo inconvenient!!

May 17/18 I'll be heading to Infineon for AMA Superbikes

July 19th I'll be at MotoGP Laguna Seca

Sept 20/21 I'll be at Indy MotoGP

OOOh, 14 June maybe?!

I got my notice that I will be in the 5/12 class at Pat's Acrea. :yahoo:

Should be fun and will aid in keeping my discount on my insurance. Which by the way isn't quite as much as the cost of the Class.

I've been deciding between the Team Oregon ART course or the Total Control ARC. I've decided to go with the Team Oregon course after reading the Total Control book. Hopefully I'll be seeing you guys on May 12th!

Well, I did the ART (Advanced Rider Training) at Pat's Acres, Canby, OR on Monday. :yahoo: jaffjrae was also there as well as two other FJR riders. It was enormous fun. The new GP Suspension proved its worth and I only touched the pegs twice vs. all the time back in 05 when the bike was new. Here is a little video of two laps during my Instructor review. (Comments included: I wasn't rolling on the throttle soon enough and on a couple turns my path wasn't optimal but not bad. FJR throttle is hard to regulate at those speeds and the path was very smoooooooth and that is why I chose it.) I got very good suggestions and view the class as benefical, even though it was my third time taking it.

It is always good to have someone watch you and give you suggestions such as:

Keep you head up when stopping.

Turn that head a little sooner before going into the corner.

Throttle smoothness (the FJR has troubles here. When running a little faster you don't have to close it down so much and it is easier to find that entry throttle location, but these corners are 3-10mph and you really need to close it, and finding that entry location sometimes squirts you wide in the corner.)

I am sure jaffjrae can add some more instructor comments that I didn't receive or forgot.

The weather was perfect and the instructors were very knowledgeable. Well worth the expense even if you are experienced. IMO. Here is a little video of the track as seen from my handlebar mounted (cheep) camera.

That's Dan in front of me, Dan's the boss Instructor, and he is giving another FJR owner a ride through the course to show him the correct line. I most likely could have never caught him but he had other riders in front of him.

Hey Ken, thanks for quick little video. I had planned to come by for some peanut gallery harrasing activity in mid afternoon but got caught up with some client issues. Looks like you had a great day and I agree about the ART course being a terrific refresher.

Not much to add for me. It was a great learning experience. I have a lot more confidence in my cornering ability now. I actually leaned over far enough to scrape my toes!

And I had way too much fun riding around that track. I will definitely take this class again next year to see how much I have improved.

Some of the rides. And yes it was amazing watching the scooter take the turns.
