HOLY **** BALLZ! You guys need to get out and ride more. I can READ the cabin fever in most everyone's post.

I understand my question may be baffled some people, but it was just a truthful question: At what speed does your fuel economy really go to the *******.

Thanks to everyone who actually contributed something at least remotely factual. And a round of applause for everyone who just posted commical ********.

So what kind of oil should I run on this trip?

You asked a question...so you must really want to know. Since you didn;t get the responses you wanted...how about YOU provide the data point.

You are going on the trip.

You have the opportunity to vary your speeds on that trip to verify what the correct speed and engine rpm to run at to get maximum mpg.

Be sure to include the gasoline you used, the oil you used,etc....and if you are running a car tire...

...there I think that about covers it.

Go get us that info son. ;)

+1, Gunny; I don't ever want to see this thread close, this one is even goofier than anything that ShinyPartsUp has ever come up with!

I've found this place tends to want to drag **** ball threads out for a long time. As the OP you probably should have thought of that before you started it...but what's done is done. And I've learned that when somebody opines things are "done"...especially the OP of a NEPRT thread.....it pretty much guarantees the exact opposite and a fresh round of scab picking. :aikido:

I don't see a compelling reason to close this thread. It's been deposited into the NEPRT zone just fine for autumnal pontification and mental masturbation. :whistling:

Regardless, I think wheatonFJR's advice is best. You might even get some slack if you report back your results and could point out the results to the next forum member that asks the same question with actual FJR data. :eek:k:

Smear your nards with Napalm. Don't forget to do your *** krack too. Get yourself a BBQ lighter, and click click click your way to relief.

I agree with TominCA & HotRodZilla's advice. My own "research has my numbers at 4K RPM which for me is about 78 MPH. For my bike at that speed I am breaking even in the MPG/Time equation, which is between 40 - 44 mpg. I get the best mileage at 3,500 rpm, but I am ready to go crazy at the slow speed. Disclaimer: everyone's bike is different when you have luggage and riding gear so your numbers may vary. Have a safe and fun trip. :)

My absolute best fuel economy..... just over idle in 5th gear cruising through park roads. Either way, a cost/benefit analysis makes it worthwhile to drive above your maximal fuel economy rating because of the aforementioned increased cost of being on the road for a longer period of time on extended trips. Just keep it below jail time speeds.

Bustanut joker, if you read between the lines you can see that Ignacio is offering to help you with your pubic lice. Matt will set half of your pubic hair on fire with lighter fluid, and then when your crabs run across to the non burning side of your crotch to safety, he will stab them to death with an ice pick! What a Guy, you just cannot beat our FJR Forum Admins. Bust, the least you could do is give Iggy a free Christmas Anus Shaver for his helping you out with this!

Good idea Don but.....

In this "sluggish economy" I'm currently suffering through about the best I can do for Ignuts is offer up me services for a free anus shave.

I know, It's not much but... The offer is out there for him.

Don't even think aboot askin' lop ears. As a darksider you aren't eligible.Admin or not.

So, you smart-***** and fart knockers; I'm back. 2 weeks and 5,490 miles later I returned from Cincinnati.

What I discovered is that when fuel prices go from $3.89/gal in Cali, to $3.09 in AZ, NM, TX, AK, ect that I don't really care about fuel economy. Trying to average 800 miles per day didnt help either.

What I did learn was this bike is the ****. I'm glad I caught on, and that my BMW is SOOOO over rated.

:D Well **** ballz. I thought for SURE one of you guys would have an answer based on factual riding experience.. TominCA stated the obvious, Ionbeam approached an answer, and Ignacio posted the most honest.

Thanks gents. I'll see what turns up. I'll have 5,339 miles to test my hypothesis.
I'm betting at some point you'll say **** the gas mileage and just go for it.

Have a safe trip.

EDIT: Since the OP was actually back before my reply it would seem I am PWI. But actually

my wife likes to give me crap to do while I am posting. I come back an hour later and finish

the post and it makes no sense. Think I'll go have a drink.

Glad you made it back safe.

So, what you're actually saying, is that the smart ***** and fart knockers were right.

...What he said.

...and I'm disappointed you didn't do this research yourself on this trip as a data point for others...as you had such a hissy fir about it in the first place.

So you want others to give you the answers...but don't give a **** enough to do the research yourself. wadda moron.

Come on now Wheatie, lighten up; he's from Kalifornia, he really can't help himself!

WOW. FYYFF! Jheeze doode, is this site not about aksing questions and learning from others experiences regarding the FJR? A community of information to share with eachother? I ask, what seemed to me, a reasonable question, and get berated for it, but when I see guys post **** about lame ******** farkles, battery voltage meters, what fairing windshield is best for me, autoretract questions, how many miles will I get out of this tire or tank, ect. no one says ****. I guess those are normal questions, where as mine was not? I know riders out there are geeks, and love to find the best this, the best that. As the FJR is a wicked awsome mileage burner I figured one of you experienced guys would already have the answer to my question. FingerFlickers response was, basically what I was looking for.

And, I think your post (#42) did make sense, but seeing as basically everyone just gave me **** for asking, what was the point in even doing the research? B)

So, thank you FingerFlicker and TomInCA. Your numbers seem to be about what I would have gotten sans topcase and lower speeds.

Actually, for the first 1500 miles I did keep decent track of my economy/mileage using Fuelly but the variance was so great it was pointless to really track it. I decided most of you were right, and that I'd just ride the fooker at whatever speed I wanted and ignore 'efficiency".

Now that most everyone has
dhorse.gif
and
csm.gif
on my thread I can return to
ricky.gif
the bike and get an even 30k miles before the end of this year. :yahoo:
