A friend of mine (no, really, it was) got a performance award near Ellensburg earlier this week. He was giving me a lift to pick up my new bike and was so excited for me he forgot to lift his foot approaching Ellensburg. We got "airplaned" and my detector never chirped a warning.

Question: Does anyone know of legal represenation in the area that has a proven track record? I spoke with JM and she wants five large to handle the case. Ouch.

 
Owwy. I came through there Eastbound Saturday. A lady in a Grand Prix insisted on doing 90 from North Bend in the left lane the whole way with a cell phone to her ear. I escorted her just to make sure she was OK. But as I came down Manastash I got that Spidey sense tingle on my neck and rolled off.

Sure enough I get 5 miles into the flats and two of Washington's finest have got the lady pulled over looking thoroughly irritated with neck veins bulging.

Two more east of Ellensburg.

Sorry, I don't have an attorney name. I have represented myself the last 4 times. If they want to become more knowledgable themself..I highly suggest Googling "IRLJ" and/or start here.

 
The embarrasing thing about this is that I used to regularly travel through Ellensburg and am well aware of the constant presence of the patrol. Never, ever, exceed the speed limit with 8 miles North or South. But in this instance, I wasn't driving/riding so the mental alarm just never went off.

What's worse is the guy was doing me a favor and he winds up with a ticket. No justice.

 
Wow, glad I checked this topic out. I'm planning a 3-week tour up to Vancouver and over to Banff, starting out at WFO. I'll be headed up through Bend, then catching the interstate at Ellensburg to motor through Seattle (unless anyone can suggest a good route/road around to Vancouver). I'll have to keep my eyes peeled and the speed down!

 
I remember talking with a police pilot once. He stated that they just match the speed and never even used radar. Of course, this was 20 years ago.

In my area on I-75 the plane uses painted lines or hash marks to time cars as they pass em then radio ahead to the patrol cars and bamn you get an award...so generally you'll never get a warning from your detector... just gota watch out for those marks/lines along the the side of the road.

 
Been through there a few time. In the heat of summer and heading west, the wind from the temperature inversions coming off the mountains could have you coasting over the speed limit.

You're getting off topic here and I would suggest starting your own thread if you want to follow up on routing anymore and don't want to talk about tickets and attornies in the Ellensburg area. I will try and quickly answer your question and suggest 97 up to Yakima, and then instead of 90 through Ellensburg to take 12 east over toward Mt. Rainer, and then 410 to Enumclaw, and then I-405 to I-5 and up to Vancouver. That time of year will be a great time to see Rainier and area. PM me or start another thread if you want more.

 
Mindtrip, I would recommend just staying on 97 at Ellensburg, and then catching Hy20 (The North Cascade Hy) for your trip over to the west side. It's a beautiful ride, and sure as hell beats the slab through Seattle.

Good advice. In Washington they use white 6 foot marks that are about a foot wide. They alternate between a straight line and a V every one half mile, usually for 5 miles at a time. The pilots use a half dozen stop watches to time the vehicles between the marks and then convert that time to mph -- and radio to a car on the ground.

I don't think the WSP has missed the mark that far -- yet. Memory says that the 200 mph RC51s are in Minnesota.

OPS -- is this a thread hijack? Look for the big white lines on the right shoulder, they are also very good for checking your odometer accuracy.

It's always been a secret fantasy of mine to go out with a big template of those V's and lines, paint extra random marks, and scrub off the real ones.......and then watch the show the next day with a scanner and set of binocoulars.

"Cessna WSP to ground WSP. First section I got that minivan at 102 mph and 2nd half at 47 mph. ......and why is that guy in the lawnchair next to the blue bike on the hillside laughing hard and trying to offer me a box of Krispy Kreme's?" :D

 
Now you tell me. I was haulin the bacon all over Washington (including Ellensburg) on my long way round to WFO last year. Guess I lucked out untill a few weeks ago when a CHP gave me award. He had just turned on his radar as I rounded the corner so the V1 didn't give me enough warning. Seems the CHP is on a major ticket campaign this year.

This doesn't sound like a bad deal since it's out of town. The last one she did for me was $350 in Bellevue. Unless you can find someone good over there, I suspect that's the best you can hope for. She's awfully good.

I have a friend who's son is a lawyer specializing in traffic cases (mostly DUI's) but he's Seattle-based too. But PM me if you'd like his number.

Ellensburg is the absolute worst place. I swear the entire town/city is funded by speeding tickets.
Be careful in Morrison Colorado. 25 is the limit, and 26 will get you a ticket. :glare: I never got one there, I'm the youngest of five kids and I learned that lesson before I got my license!
