Did ya ever go outside and get a damn fly or two that just continually buzzed around your head? The kind you can't seem to swat, can't outrun, follows you everywhere and just won't go away?

Time to bump this back up with the latest news.
Got my "new" fuel pump today... the O-ring between the coolant pipe and thermostat was GONE!...
Prolly stuck in yer ***... Along with yer head...look under your foot ******* :yahoo:

Anyone heard of a forum restraining order???

So, howie...ya finally downloaded photochop....good fer ya. One of these days ya might come up with something usefull.......or funny. Idjit.

I wouldn't bother ordering those o-rings. I picked up a pair down at my local ACE hardware. Couldn't have been more than 69 cents apiece. I took the coolant pipe and the old o-ring with me and matched it to the closest size o-ring (sorry I can't remember exactly which size it was). Just make sure it fits snug around the pipe. The OEM rings have a flat side and the ones I bought were round, but it didn't seem to matter. No leaks!

While Howie is out looking for O-rings, the fresh batch of gas proceeds to absorb water at a prestigious rate. Hurry Howie, hurry!

The OEM o-rings only have a flat side because they have been compressed since they were originally installed. O-rings don't come pre-flattened...

In the immortal words of Jerry Garcia, "What a long, strange trip it's been."

Stick a fork in this thread....it's done!

Just finished reinstalling the coolant pipe with new O-rings, swapped out the old fuel pump with my Fleabay $99.99 special (thanks, Rad for the heads-up), buttoned up all the mechanicals and fired her up....."The shuttle has cleared the tower!"

Runs like an expensive Japanese watch. Purrs like my KoonKat (avatar kitty). No more coolant spraying all over the garage. No gas leaking anywhere from the fuel pump hold-down or fuel lines. Put a see-through filter in the feed line so I can monitor fuel cleanliness. No oil seeping from the valve cover. I'm a happy ******!

I'm done for the night...gonna celebrate with some tequila and limes. Will take the next couple of nights to put all the plastic back on, clean up the Silver Streak and put the ****** back on the road by the weekend. Ain't real life a *****? I oughta take a day off this week and just "get 'er done" so I can go riding, but the weather outlook calls for major suckage the next few days.

I wanna send out thanks to everyone who supported me during this nightmare, with special thanks to RICLET for confirming for me that my fuel pump had indeed gone **** up. May all your children move out, may all your rides be good ones and may all your orgasms cause unconciousness.

Thanks to Radman for spotting that cheap pump on eBay, plus the MANY PMs he sent my way with instructions and advice. Ionbeam and SkooterG get a big tip-o-the hat for their diagnostic help. And Bustanut and FredW, for keeping me positive.

And a final "stick it up yer ***" to odot, who gave me the motivation to prove his sorry *** wrong. I don't need no steenkin' new skoot, ya grumpy old *******. :****:

You guys have been great. And there's nothing like this forum. It's the kind of support group A.A. wishes it was.

Thank you all.

'Howie

Excellent RH.

Just keep an eye on that fuel filter. If it's in the rail feed it's looking at 40+ PSI. Some are designed for that, and some are designed for suction lines.

Enjoy!

Yep...well aware. Trust me, in the last 2 months, I've become somewhat of an expert on Gen I fueling. :)

Good deal, I'm sure you're ahead of all of it now and just want to RIDE The reason I mentioned it was I knew a young fellow that put one on a fuel tank line once and forgot to leave the vent cap open. Blew 30 gal of diesel all over the ground when the Sun got to the tank and burst the plastic in-line filter. I had a heck of a time cleaning up my mess and explaining it to my boss.

Funny how your reply went from third person to first person. :) :)

The filter I'm using is stainless steel and pyrex.

Great News, Howie!

Thanks for keeping us entertained with your agony..

What's next?

The first FJR final drive failure?

Howie ~

You, my man, get the award for perseverance!

You have just completed the graduate level course in Trouble-Shooting... your certificate is in the mail.

Get out there and ride that BadBoy, you've earned it! :biggrinsmiley:

Or... as we say up here in the frozen PNW - "Even a blind pig finds an occasional truffle"! :acute:

I'm happy for ya!

Don

Howie,

Bravo on your perseverance. I think many would have quit along the way. I raise a toast to you Sir :drinks:
