I can now confirm the fitment of both the Yamaha and Givi top boxes on my '04 without any interference with the prototype cell. Both top box lids also hinge completely open without any contact of the cell. :yahoo:
What about a Givi box with a backrest pad?

Is it thicker than 2 inches? My preliminary fit check reveals a clearance of at least 2 inches from any part of the E-46(?) top box, even with the lid open.

MadMike wants to know why you just don't remove the backrest when you ride solo LD? :yahoo:

An update just for you Smitty! :D

That's one major design consideration achieved. :clapping:

I'm surprised to find that the mounting kit I've designed is almost identical to accommodate both setup's. I'm about 90% certain that the whole thing can be removed with 2 bolts.

Thanks Skyway... Can't wait to see it complete... :yahoo: Smitty

For one, there would be two holes in my Givi box, and two, the pad does a great job of covering up the custom routing job I did with the Fred H. LED array so I didn't have to drill the box and kept the wiring completely outside of the inner storage area of the trunk.

Oh... :dribble:

How thick is the pad, Bob? We were having top "eyeball" the gap as there isn't a mock-up of the framework yet. It looks like close to 2". He'll know more once he gets a prototype framework completed and I run my bike up there for a trial fit regarding the Givi equipment. Yamaha guys might be removing the pad.........

Having measurement would help. I was guessing they were about 2" thick and it would be close. Neither Skyway's Yamaha box of my Givi have the backrest pad, so it was a good question from you concerning those who have the pad installed.

I have an as of yet unmounted Givi pad I'd be willing to ship out to you guys for testing/fittment, etc.

Let me know and I'd be happy to loan it to ya.

Just measure the thickness and PM Skyway.

Well... can't have that, now! I'll throw ya a bone.......
Skyway's cell may look nothing like the following. Or, it might resemble it to a fair degree once it's all done.
Welllll.......I've seen it and.....I've been sworn to secrecy.....but it doesn't look like W.C.'s. I do, however, like what I see and can envision the finished product Skyway is planning.

The last report is that it feeds the main tank really well.......so he must have a working (though unfinished) prototype.

Its just too fun being a cruel member of the conspiracy.

The ****** sent me some pics of his prototype the other day. I swore I would not post them, but...................

I can be easily bought.

I knew I should have had you guys sign NDA's.

There are only 3 people who have seen what I've done so far, and based on the responses above, it looks as though I can only trust 1 of them? :D

As mentioned above it seems to be working as advertised. I filled the cell and it seems to drain half in about 15 minutes. I'm thinking that turning the valve when the main tank is about half empty will be the ticket.

Nice to hear the updates and that everything so far is doing as it suppose too.

As for the spy photos..... I can wait for the finished product.

Can anyone help me?

I need to borrow a Givi rack and all mounting hardware for the 03-05 FJR. This will allow me to carefully complete all of the fuel cell fit checks for both the Yamaha and Givi top boxes. I'll pay the shipping both ways.

PM sent back. A rack has now been secured.

Thanks.

Any super secret spy photos floating around the internet... like the ones that come out in Car and Driver when Ferrari or Porsche are working on a new model? Irregular coloration and faux panels would be acceptable....

Ian, I wish I'd seen this. I could have ridden mine to you and reinstalled the OEM until you were done.

Uhm, did you lose my phone number? <_< Forget my email address? :dribble: Can't remember how to send PMs through the forum?
