I know, I know....what a slacker!!!! :)
Seriously though, I've talked to a few hotels in Athens and am in the process of making a final decision. Dates, hotel contact info and group codes will be posted at soon as possible. Looks like the main graduation at Ohio University is the week after...Hampton, Super8 and Baymont have told me reservations for our week should be no problem.

No worries, the ramble is happening and we have time to book.

See you guys in June!
Is it June yet?!?!?!?!?

RESERVATION UPDATE!!!!!

OK, everyone...motels in Athens are friggin outrageously priced!!!

I have tried pretty hard to negatiate with a group buy and AAA discount. The best I could get is around $115+ tax per night. Before you say "But I stayed at xxx for $70", I am only looking at places with good reviews. That means clean rooms, no mold , no BS mgmt, etc. In other words, if it got more than 1 bad review, I will not consider it as I don't us to have to put up with a substandard place. Plus many of us simply cannot stay in places with mold, myself included. I do not want to risk staying at a budget "mom and pop" place with bad reviews.

This is a lot more $$$ than what our target rate is. Some of you will be there 3 nights, maybe more.

So, I've relooked extensively at cabins. And found a place that is cheap, clean, has good reviews, is close to good riding/food/gas and has availability.

Lazy Lane Cabins

I have a spreadsheet made which shows me that IF we book cabins and book the number of people = number of beds, the cost is around $50 per night, in some cases much less!!!! If there are couples, one bed can house 2 people which means the cost per person goes down. If people bring a mattress, the cost drops more (up to maximum oocupancy).

I spoke with them briefly, they tell me they won't discount a group, but the prices are already very good. They also have several "MC friendly" cabins. They also have several that are fairly close to each other for nighttime socialization. Food and gas is just a couple of miles away (Logan). Expect to pay about $53 per night at these cabins. Which frankly is cheap considering this area is expensive for tourists.

So...let's get a consensus...Take a look at the website and give me your opinion!

As for managing reservations, I think I have a system in mind that is fair to all. More on that...right now I need you guys to give the nod for Lazy Lane. Please reply within a week with "looks good" or "no thanks".

This will not commit you, but rather will help me confirm this is the place we'll stay.

Then I'll post the process to book your bed, which I'll manage for the group.

P.S. Sorry this is later than what I expected, I have had little chance to reply!!!

I am not entirely sure 60/40 as to making this as I will be going to CFR a couple weeks later. But if I do, I have no problem with these cabins...

I would agree with this. I stayed a a nice hotel in Logan Ohio a few months ago and it is just 25 miles from Athens. Baymont Inn, had a gas station and a new Bob Evans just across the street. Rooms were about 100 per night, not bad if you split it with someone. I'm very interested, will be watching to see what date gets picked.
Glad to see you picked a place in Logan. I'll book a room at the Baymont Inn and have breakfast right across the street at Bob Evans. Those that want to stay in cabins can do so, those that want a nice hotel can stay at the Baymont Inn and we can all meet and enjoy a great ride. Has the date been cast in stone yet?

Joe,

I'm 10 miles down 303 from you, maybe we can ride down together. I think the date was 1st weekend in june, but not sure that is the final word yet.

As of now, I'm in. Not sure where I'll stay, but the hotel sounds comfortable. Maybe I can hook up with you guys and we can head down together?

I hope that my son's graduation is not going to cause a problem for me to attend

I'm interested. I need to start meeting some of the Fjr group. I would prefer Lazy Lane, if i could share with someone.(I am house trained  ) But it's more about the people than the ride, so I'm flexible on the accomodations. I have to keep the spending in check though, could not afford the solo price for 2 or three days.

Heidi, when you come out of hibernation, and if you are going to go, let me know. The rides are always better in numbers. I'll meet up with you on your way out. So far I don't see any others near me that are going.

Chris

Hi Chris, will definitely keep up with you as time grows closer. I do plan on attending. I might have another friend interested in this trip, also. He lives in Va Beach.

As far as lodging... I'm ok with cabins. I am budget minded & will be staying where there are cheaper accomodations. I cannot afford a $300.00 room bill by any stretch of the imagination.

Since I'd be coming in from a couple of states away, I am looking for a mattress already in my room.

Also, I think that this may work out to be a lot of hassle for the organizer.

Mike, I'd like to know if your calculations are figured "per person" as opposed to 1 bed (w/ 2 people in it) = 1 fee.

Ok Heidi, pm me when the time comes. Looking forward to finally meeting some other feejer riders.

So Rick (OhioFJR1300), you're not going to say with the rest of the group? That bites, man!

Here is exact pricing schedule of the cabins. Cheap, and many have hot tubs :yahoo:

The RED figures are the per person rates with one bed per person. Anything to the right of there would be for couples sharing a bed or extra air matress wielders, lowering the price significantly. You basically pay a little more for more bathrooms as you can see. This is only a sample of the lower priced cabins. They have others as well.

Yes organizing it will be a bit of a pain in the ***, but that is the sacrifice I will make for my fellow ramblers. Good Karma, too :D

ALSO MAJOR NOTE ABOUT THE DATES!! These are Sun-Thursday rates which are indeed much cheaper than weekends. My major motivation here was both cost and more importantly without a doubt these roads are 100X more enjoyable and safer due to the lack of tourists during the week. So our ramble dates will probably slide by 2 days.

PROPOSED NEW RAMBLE DATES

RIDE JUNE 8-9, 2009. Out of area riders can meet evening of June 7.

You guys are welcome to stay wherever you want, I won't be offended. You may find the prices are near $110 per night+tax though. I figure we'll meet up at Bob Evans in Logan for breakfast then ramble from there.

I've stayed at the hotel before, its a nice place, gas station right across the street and a new Bob Evans too. I'll be with the group, but when it comes time to sleep, there's nothing like a hot tub, a indoor pool and a nice quiet room with a nice bed. I guess I'm getting old   But the roads are the best :yahoo: My buddy and I ride that area a lot over the summer months.

So, will we be riding on Monday and Tuesday and heading home on Wednesday? Or heading home on Tuesday?

Looks like I'll show up on Sunday evening and leave either Tuesday morning or Wednesday morning, depending on what everyone else is going to do.

Changing the dates to Monday and Tuesday works out well for me. I have some 4H training at Camp Wyomoco in Varysburg, NY that weekend that I was going to blow off, but now I can do the 4H thing and ride down to the ramble on Sunday afternoon. I think I'll be riding some new roads just getting there. :yes2: I'll have my tent and sleeping bag with me for the 4H weekend so I will be prepared no matter what the final decision on accomodations turns out to be.

Although it looks like I won't be able to come this year to your Ramble there Mike (too close to my CFR trip for getting vacation time off), I will be right there with you in spirit. :clapping:

I'll be heading down there at some other point of the year and I'll try to give you a "heads up" before I do. Since SE Ohio is just a long weekend for me...SE Ohio was some of some of my first twisty FJR riding for me...led by Mr yamaholic hisself.

SE Ohio and WV are great for riding...I have as much fun there as anywhere I ride. :yahoo:

You guys have a GREAT and safe time. :clapping:
