Torque wrench @ the 10 % setting?.....not according to my snap-on or mac reps....So why....inquiring minds want to know? :D ....
Avoids fatigue of the spring due to prolonged compression. Maintains accuracy of the wrench.

DCarver - I just did a buddy's 06 this weekend. One turn was not enough. Wound up totally removing the center spring. Still stiffer than my 05. Must be newer springs!

:D

I ended up popping two of the springs. It's a little soft now, but I don't get fatigued any more.

I have all of my throttle springs and don't use a throttle lock. :)

Of course I move my wrist more as I don't travel the interstate much. Then again I have had a few 600+ days. My butt wears out before the wrist gets fatigued...

OK, much discussion has been generated regading the too-stiff pull on the 06's. Release the throttle spring on revolution, different throttle tubes & cams, and the Fred H. fixe have all been discussed. One idea that has not been debated is to simply leave the throttle wide freakin' open (WFO) over night each and every night. Leaving the throttle WFO should eventually weaken the spring. This is the exact same reason you should always return your click type torque wrench to the 10% setting after each use..

Any thoughts? Think this would work? After all, the Grand Canyone wasn't carved in a day..
Hey d,

You can try the WFO trick if ya' got alot o' patience but taking one twist off the spring really does work, results in instant gratification and you can always put it back if needed.

Did you check mine out while at Camp Roberts last Sat.? By the way , it was nice meeting you and visiting a bit while there. I had a great ride up the PCH on Sunday and the weather was perfect! :yahoo:

Later,

Rob
Well, truth be told, I've already tried this feat of daring doo. Personally, I think it did work.. which is what I related to Rob at the ride.. but didn't want to get dog-piled for a stupid idea (WOOF-WOOF) and presented it differently on the forum... I'm going to leave the spring as is.. and try the different cam on the throttle tube thing... Although, really, I don't have a problem with it as-is..

I used duct tape and taped it wide open every night and left it on all day while I was at work for more than a week. This had absolutly no affect on the spring pull what so ever. Get out the tools and git er done. :)

Really. Inserting a long thin bladed screw driver down to release one wrap of the spring is not that difficult. Just do it when you're also doing a TBS or have the tank up and the heat shield off for some other reason. The most difficult part of the whole process is locating the spot where the spring clips to the little lip. Get a good flashlight in there and twist the throttle. You'll see it.

Makes a huge difference and costs $0 other than your time.

Okay, I just tried this. The idea is STOOPID beyond belief. First off, the tank runs dry after about an hour at WFO. Secondly, one HELL of a lot of antifreeze keeps splurting out of the overflow. After filling the gas tank three times and the coolant twice, I just shut the damn thing off and went to bed. Sheesh.

I sit on my FJR every night in the garage and open and close the throttle hundreds of times. Then i leave it pinned. The next morning i do the same. It is an incredible tribute to the quality of the steel used by Yamaha that the only thing that is getting worn out is my ass and my wrist.

The throttle is still one heavy miserable son of a bitch

It's bad enough that with all those people around nobody volunteered to push you around to get some airflow but to think you didn't know enough to ask...what a big dumb dummy

No wonder - you have an 04.

OH YEAH? Well at least you don't have to worry about your pottie breaks, you OLD Granny Ari! Even you can hold it for an hour! See? I did ya favor by letting you in on this technique! ;)
