The good wife bought me a Laminar Lip for my birthday.

I have both the stock and tall OEM windshields and plan on putting it on the tall shield. I am 6'0" but have a torso like I am 6'4" or taller. My entire head is above the tall shield and I can easily see over it.

I have a friend who as a Laminar on his ST. He says that a variation of just a few inches can make the Laminar either useless or heavenly. For those who have installed the Laminar on a tall OEM shield, what is the best position (the top of Laminar) vs. the shield? The instruction says anywhere between even with the shield to no taller than 1/2 the length of the Laminar.

I realize that I will have to adjust it fit my needs, but I would love to have a starting point.

I have mine mounted about the 1/2 mark. I have experimented with lower, but found that higher is better for me. I have it on a +4 Cal Sci window. I think you should experiment, starting with a lower position. Everyone has different ergos and conceptions about what they like. Buy some 3m Duo Lok fastener tape for changing the mounting height.

You are right: the position of the Lip can have a big impact on its effectiveness. I had one on my ST1300 and played with the height of the Lip quite a bit. I used regular Velcro strips until I found the best position, then used the 3M DuaLock fasteners supplied with the Lip for the final install. You can also fiddle with the bend on the Lip but this puts more stress on the fasteners and the windshield.

I put a Lip on my FJR stock 'shield last fall but didn't have time to fine tune it. It made a big improvement anyway and is, in my often ignored opinion, well worth the $80. BTW, I've got the top edge of the Lip about 1" vertically above the top of the OE shield. I'm 6' and of average proportions.

Just got mine today will start at 1 inch above also 6 foot tall. Thanks alot!! :dirol:
Put it on about 1&1/2 inches above top of windshield ,didnt like it so now have it set at 1 inch will find out how it work's, on the ride to work hell in the morning. :)

I've had a laminar lip fitted for about 4 years. Initially it was set about 1 1/2" above the OEM screen. It made a very significant improvement to turbulence and being 'slapped' on the side of the head with a wet towel! but it did seem to produce a lot more wind noise.

Just recently I noticed that the lower DualLoks had become detached. I released the remaining DualLoks and cleaned up the lip & screen. Then just for grins I decided to refit it lower down, with the lip level with the OEM screen. IMO that is a significant improvement both in noise and reduced turbulence.

My best guess is the longer flow path between the lip & the screen is calming everything down................................

Hmmm.... never tried fitting it level, I've always gone with Laminar's recommended 1" above. Maybe I'll try that - maybe not.
