Fricking Florida Keys are looking way too expensive for my Budget!
Thought i might score a room at NAS Key West but they are all booked up.

Motels etc are outrageous, I'm pretty close to saying Phuck the Keys! :{
Bike week pricing. Do not give up on the ride down.

Ride down EARLY am, ride back in the evening. I have done it that way many times.

Thanks to all for your support, offers of rooms, encouragement and the information:

NAS Key West Lodging all booked up

USCGS Marathon Lodging all booked up

Cheapest Motel I could find in the "Keys" was ~$200 after all the BS Fees and Taxes

I found a Visiting Officers Quarters room at Homestead AFB for the night of March 21st.

My plan is to leave Tequesta FL early on the 21'st, ride to Key West, have a beer and lunch, then ride back to Homestead for the night.

I'd be really happy to have a covey of FJR's make the trip to Key West with me,

it sounds like Tony may make the ride with me, he will coordinate rendezvous for any interested in going.

Wahoo!

I have to quit this work thing. It's getting in the way of all the good rides.

You sure have to watch those fees. I stayed at a place once down there. A few weeks later I get a "resort fee" on my credit card. I call and ask the place what this is for. Well they explain it's for use of the pool and other amenities.

I am baffled as there was no pool. They tell me the pool is at another hotel within walking distance. Of course they never actually told me I had access to a pool while I was there.

It was only $5.95 but I went through the whole credit card protest deal just for the principle of it. I won.

Roadscum, I'll be in Port Charlotte on the night of the 22nd of March, heading for Panama City Beach on the 23rd If you are interested?

Gotcha on my calendar for 3/22 John.

My favorite lunch/dinner place in KW with yummy steamed shrimp and cold beer: : https://www.halfshellrawbar.com/raw-bar

Heading south, just past Homestead, Card Sound Road will go to the right(east). It's a nice ride, may help avoid some traffic congestion and will merger into Rt1 in Key Largo. At the base of Card Sound Bridge is an 'Old Florida' joint that I like to visit on the way down. It's a good place to get infected with the Key's Disease, all residents of the keys(known as conch) have it..... the best known symptom is that time no longer matters, and most no longer give a chit about anything at all.... except maybe the next cold beer. That place is Alabama Jack's: https://www.tripadvisor.com/Restaurant_Review-g34344-d491818-Reviews-Alabama_Jack_s-Key_Largo_Florida_Keys_Florida.html

If you get no further then Alabama Jack's, it's happened to me a few times, you'll at least be able to say your experienced the Keys.

Definitely interested in this day ride. I'll be coming from Fort Myers so maybe I could meet you around Homestead on the way down

Plenty of time to sort out the details.

I am in !!!

If my sons bike is fixed, we will be doing a SS1000 ride into the Jax dinner.

I planned the route to ride down to #41 (Tamiami Trail) and across to I-75…

I will be able to let you know the condition of the route. (I have not ridden across that way in years)

John

I am going to try to swing by and say hello on the 17th while you are at the booth.

However, the gainful employment stops midweek rides this time of year. I am out.
