Can't we just all get along??

Sure we can.

Just having a discussion about HP, some things we agree upon, some things we don't, no big deal.

NOS. Turbo. Supercharger. Some work and expense involved. Give up nothing and get power whenever. There is nothing like the feel of being leaned over in a corner, almost ticking the foot peg feeler off the road and then have the turbo come on boost. There is nothing like the feel of being leaned over in a corner, almost ticking the foot peg feeler off the road and then have the NOS switch close.

More power than the fjr? I sold my fjr after owning it only 3 months partly because the thing hauled ***. At first I thought it was not too impressive because I was driving it like a cruiser with low rpm's. If you want to haul red line it or near, keep revs up and it will get you jail time fast. Bored pop the clutch a little and practice wheelies. I think if you want more acceleration I would get a zx-14 or a busa and put corbin bags and heated grips on it, taller shield and call it a day.

This.

I've got a buddy that put a Mr. Turbo kit on his CBR600. Said I could take it for a ride.

Drop it into 3rd (hey, I'm not nuts) and pin it on the hwy. It would take off like you expect a 600 would. Then the turbo would kick in. Instant sky-shot. I thought I'd have to wash all my **** off his bike.

Interested in getting back to "into the 9's" discussion. Looking at a 1/4 Mile ET Calculator if I punch in 840# and 123 RWHP it shows ET of 11.05 seconds. Factor in reaction time and it appears to be decent estimate of real world FJR performance.

Soooo...what do we need to get into the 9's? Figuring same weight and reaction time, 175 RWHP gives us an ET of 9.83. Damn, an FJRZX14busa!

FWIW YMMV

Reaction time isn't included it the actual elapsed time. The timing doesn't start until the front wheel breaks the staging light. You can sit at the starting line for 15 minutes and still have an elapsed time of 11.xx seconds. The only way reaction time matters is when you are trying to get off the line before the victim competitor in the next lane. That is one of the nice things when you are a bike mag testing bikes, they can stage and get themselves prepped for the run because they don't have to worry about cutting a good light to win.

I have found the FJR to be one of the easiest bikes I have ever ridden to get off the line as evidenced by really good 60' times. With uncorrected times the same FJR at the same track can easily vary by ±0.3 seconds depending on the weather and traction conditions. I always run faster at Lebanon Valley Dragway than New England Dragway because of track conditions. Then there are things you can do with the suspension and tires that will also significantly affect elapsed times. All of these variables before even looking at the rider's skill or the engine performance.

Everyone should go to the drag strip at least once, and if at all possible go with someone with experience to help you get through the tech inspection, rules, track etiquette and hints. I'll also bet that you can't make just one run ;) What you learn about 10/10 riding will be amazing. Also, everyone should go to a track at least once.....

I make at least a couple bracket races every year - usually about this time (down south, we don't worry about that white stuff).

Great fun.

The new Ninja 1000 has some Sport Touring inclinations. Haven't seen any performance stats, but MCN has a cover story on it in this month's edition. I'll take a look and re-post.

That reminds me Ion. A lady friend of mine (Trillium Muir, worlds fastest woman depending on which organizing body you believe) did a drag racing school when Maxton got rained out one year. Next year, she had another 'Busa, tied forks, air shifter etc.. That girl can launch a bike! I should ask her to give me some lessons. I've got a spare FJR I can use in case I roast the clutch.

I forgot about a Turbo/Supercharger, lots of guys do this to their motors, BUT, it HAS to be done correctly or the motor won't last.

I know guys that have gone the Turbo route and their motors blew within a year or so......others have lasted with no issues.

All the guys that lasted were engineers......one a railroad engineer that does a lot of engine rebuilds.

I test rode one.

Nice bike plenty fast but not a very comfy riding position when compared to the FJR, upright, but kind of cramped.

HEY SCOOTERG....did we list enough engine mods for you? The Turbo alone is a azz kicker!
