Is there a basic starting point regarding curriculum for a power engineer? I understand the obvious such as the strong math/physics background but would like to acquire some meaningfull related text. I have been told by a friend that i need to get my resume in to the local utility company as there will be positions opening up shortly and he has told a supervisor at the steam plant to keep an eye out for it. My last 11 years of work/insanity would(i feel) put my skills somewhere between an industrial millwright and power engineer 3rd's,...yet without any paperwork to back it up.

Thanks for any advice guys

cheers

A BS in E.E would mean going back to the classroom and i'm just not shure i would be able to keep from killing people in such an enviroment :assassin: .

Text material, that's what i need.

A look at the requirements and job description for the position would be the first starting point. Is the utility looking for a plant operator or designer? Two completely different types of skill sets necessary for running a boiler & T/G set or doing the design work and heat balances. I've spent over 15 years around high pressure boilers and T/G sets in co-generation type plants...Started out with a BSME and then acquired a lot of OJT to develop the skills necessary to keep from blowing stuff up or burning stuff down.
