Some of us have BTDT! Prayers are offered for the entire family.
FYI:
1) "most likely" the lung is collapsed because one of the broken ribs punctured it. That will heal rather quickly and the cavity will drain rapidly once he can sit up straight or stand. Until then his movement is going to be limited by the tube and apparatus.
2) He is going to look terrible with the tubes and IVs.
3) Morphine is his friend. If he is on the "self-administered" button, tell him to use it. Pain relief will help him sleep, and that rest will speed the healing process.
4) The shoulder injury will take the longest to heal and may require surgery to align everything.
5) When he goes home, he WILL NOT be able to sleep in a normal bed. IIRC, I was in a recliner-chair for a month or more. Broken ribs HURT! Laying on a bed it painful because all of the chest cavity and internal organs "hang" from the ribcage. The recliner keeps him at a 40-45 degree angle vs. a prone position that spreads the ribcage.
Keep a pillow nearby. When he has to cough, he can "hug" the pillow to help support the ribcage.
Trust me, I KNOW these things!
Again...thoughts, good wishes and prayers to Cameron and his family.
