At many stations these days the gasoline delivery pressure is so high that it's difficult to top off the FJR tank without making a mess. For each grade of gas is there just one pump back at the underground tank?

Spewing brief bursts of gas from a high pressure supply may let a few drops of the precious juice get on the paint.

Bent the hose. I dont know how good it is for the hose but your bike will stay clean.

 
I have never had this problem. I know roughly how much gas I will be putting in, so I always slow down the delivery to a trickle when I am almost full.

This is the fjrforum. Your common sense has no place here.

No, really, some pumps don't really lend themselves to that 'slow-down' pumping action. They seem to either be on or off, with no in between.

With those type pumps, I usually try to make sure the nozzle is deep in the tank so that as the fuel level rises, it will suppress the splash. Of course, this leaves doing the "bump" on the nozzle about a half a million times.

Too bad you can't eyeball the metal thingie in your tank using that thingie... remember, you ain't supposed to go above it or you'll soon be slippin ' and a slidin'.

The "pump" is at the pump, each has individual characteristics. Many pumps will have a slower rate of fill IF you start off slow or medium. I find the biggest problem is at attempting to top off the tank, once it gets above the guard near the top, you're on your own, so I just don't try to stuff the tank, which isn't a good idea anyway-very hot weather will have you venting fuel out the overflow, especially if you fuel then park for chow or whatever.

I always just grab a few paper towels which are usually conveniently located right next to the pump. Fill er up, and as I need to start pulling the nozzel out, I secure it with a few paper towels around the nozzel. Prevents any splashback for me.

 
Rasberrys! (strawberrys?) Take yer time, be careful = no spills. In case there is spillage - maybe a cloth

or provided papetr towel?
