Located a new at the dealer 2008 FJR A for 12,800.

Is this a good price? Anyone out there know of a better price?

Thanks,

Carl Stark

Lets's start by assuming you are in the United States and that we're discussing US dollars. You might want to fill in those fields in your personal information.

Whether the price is good or not depends on whether that is an OTD price or if the dealer adds in 'optional extra fees'. It also depends on what state you live in if it is OTD. OTD is a very poor basis for comparison as it is state-specific.

The base number seemed to be crowding $12K for a 'deal' on an '08 these days, someone reported paying $11,792 plus taxes recently and there's one on PSN listed at $11.5K.

You should probably use those as your reference numbers, always keeping in mind that the bike is now technically a year-old leftover.

There's a brand new Canadian unit listed in Quebec at $14,495, which today translates to $11,735 (probably the FIRST TIME EVER that US and Canadian pricing matched in the history of bikedom). There's another at $15,039 closer to the border (and an 07 AE as well at $14,500).

Why mention it? Because buying a Canadian bike will get you the "World" version that so many US owners seem to crave (at least that's what they claim to ride in their profiles). Seriously though, the "world" versions have the immobiliser system that adds about $800 to the price of the bike and keys that don't bend and break. They also come with the OEM heated grips as standard equipment - chalk up another $300 or so dollars to the plus side making a Canadian bike a truly great value!!.

Then again, you don't get the bag liners and the warranty would be void. But you could buy an aftermarket warranty to compensate and still be ahead of the game, mind you.

Carl,

Bought my 08, before taxes and fees, for $12,175. Here in SC, we pay a max of $300 on vehicles, plus about another 25 bux for title/registration fees. So my total came to $12.5K. But thats me and thats here.

A dealer in Columbia, SC, had three 08's (the A models, with the clutch) at time of my purchase, but he would not come below $12.5K (before tax/title/license).

D&H Cycle in Cullom, Ala (about 50 miles north of Birmingham) sell a lot of FJR's to folks on this forum. I believe they were selling 08's for around 12K. You could fly in, they pick u up at the airport and drive you to their shop. You seal the deal and ride the bike home. Many have chosen this option for savings and fun. BTW, they also have the absolute best price on the extended warranty offered by Yamaha called the YES warranty (Yama Extended Service). They continue to sell the 4 year YES for $389 per Gerald last week. (I think there cost on it is $369). I had a dealer quote me $600 on the same YES. You can buy your bike anywhere and still buy the YES from D&H. So it pays to shop around and be informed. Use Google to help you search this forum and other sites for pricing help.

Don't get in a hurry and you will save yourself some coin. Then you may be able to rent a clown!

Regards,

LCJ

Not sure on the specifics on price. I just called a salesman that I know and asked him what he had because there was another forum member looking for one. I saw the bike yesterday and it still had the MSRP tag on it. It would come down yo sitting down with him a working out the deal.

bought my 2008 on ebay back in May for 11900 with 750 miles on it, with PCIII, after market windshield, K&N airfilter, first oil change done incl. FD oil change

patience and looking everywhere is key

just my $ .02

Resistance is futile, Carl! You are about to be assimulated. Where's the bike located and how far are you willing to travel? I suspect you could do better than $12.8, but you have to figure your time, travel costs, ect. If the bike is close to you, I'd just do the deal. This time of year especially, when a fly out/ride home is more difficult. Good luck and welcome to the FJR fold.

Just bought mine a month ago from a dealer in Jackson WY. with 87 "demo" miles for $11,000. No sales tax since I'm from MT and he delivered it 200 miles!

Screw it - it's only money. You'll make more.

Just buy the damn thing.

Then go for a ride. Take lots of pictures. Share the pictures with us.

End of September I bought one new for $12,500 out the door (includes Michigan 6% sales tax and everything else). So I figure around $11,700 plus title and taxes.

Where in Michigan? Both dealerships that I have talked to in SE Michigan are saying MSRP ($13,899) plus tax/title/destination.

Another $12,500 out the door in Pennsylvania a month ago. Seems like a reasonable price so go for it!

I checked around and Honda East of Toledo dealt some and Rosenau beat the price. They had one at another dealership or at their warehouse (they had to get it). That was around the 11th of September and they were hard to find at dealerships then. You may be too late now my friend.

Edited to add: Don't know when the 2009's come out but can you wait? I know at the Cycle Show there was a Yamaha dealer there that was giving fantastic deals last year. Can't ride in this weather now anyway.
