My touring buddy carried the same crushed aluminum can around for years. Not only was it free, he was saving the environment

Pretty funny. I love efficiency and low tech solutions. LOL

I love this idea too. I doubt I'd use an aluminum can but I'm gonna find something to put a string on.

Yeah. He crushed the can top to bottom, so it was shaped like a hockey puck. You wouldn't think it'd be strong enough, but he used it with a 900 pound Cavalcade for years then moved it to his 900 pound Goldwing when he got it. He finally left it on a Pizza Hut parking lot in Harrison, Arkansas, and that's the first thing he told me when we stopped next -- "I left my can at the Pizza Hut." I think he actually missed it. ;)

I've seen people use stuff like 1/8" metal plates, but you have to be cautious about where you carry it. It can do some damage vibrating around on the bike. Be sure to file sharp edges off and put it where there's nothing to damage.

I've got one of these on each bike. One has "American Voyager Association" on it, and the other has "ZRX Owners Association" on it. No string. I'll probably loose them some day.

Got the same as you Old Guy, picked them up at the Progressive Show and then another one in Daytona from the Geico girls. I found out the other day the need for the string! lol. Parked on some gravel where the "puck" was actually needed and not just a precaution, anyway it's a beatch to try and reach down, pick it up and keep the bike up at the same time. lol. Also store it in the tank bag now for easy access.

When you go to their warehouse store in Conway, NH (like for the open house this coming weekend) these things are lying all over the place. I think they expect them to be taken. Note they already have the hole drilled in 'em for the retrieval cord. But I have a Bigfoot on my FJR so never need to use one.

In new england the roads have been paved so many times that the average curb is only 3 or 4 inches high so ya just drive over it an down the sidewalk. Do watch out for those pesky pedestrians, tho...

Yup that is the same ones the Geico Girls are giving out like they're candy! Obviously a marketing thing. I love Whitehouse Gear! I just got the most recent catalog the other day. We have a Cycle Gear and Competition Accessories nearby but I'd love to have a Whitehouse Gear!

3 pages in this thread and I'm surprised no one has yet pointed out the racial offensiveness of the subject line.
I went with the CF kick stand plate from Aerostich; avoiding the low rent options.

I actually never noticed anything racial about the original post subject line until you pointed it out. So who's the racist here?

That's a pretty kickstand plate. Aren't you worried about scratching it? Do you notice a difference in it's performance from the reduction in weight?

I've got one I cut from a 1/8" thick aluminum plate, about 4" in diameter. That's roughly 4 times the surface area of the stock sidestand "foot".

The string is an EXCELLENT idea! For some reason that never occurred to me.

I've seen one with a telescoping handle, but I think that's for putting it in place before lowering your sidestand.

The original post reminds me of a dilemma a fellow was having on a Kawasaki Forum.

He wanted to know if a certain model had self-cancelling turn signals because he had a real problem remembering to turn off on his last Bike. He wasn't gonna buy another Bike without that feature.

Many Bike Owners are NOT Bikers IMHO. I see a lot of amateurs out there especially on the street.

Sorry to bust your bubble, but the vast majority of us are amateurs. When was the last time you got paid to ride your bike?

Being an amateur doesn't mean that you have to suck at it.

Some days I will be "on the clock" while riding around with my cell , so on those days I guess I'm technically a "pro", but most days I'm just a weekend hacker like the rest of you'se. ;)

How 'bout "novices"? Better? Sorry you took that so literally.

Frankly, I've ridden with a couple of novice FJR riders around here, but I never noticed them keepin' their feet danglin' near the ground when they let out the clutch. But it's the norm with many in the Cruiser and GoldWing brotherhood. Just don't know any better is all I can surmise.

And my apologies if YOU feel like you're gonna fall over every time you launch that 145 hp missile.

And FYI; "bubble" still intact!

Well, my name isn't FJRacer, if that's what you mean.

But no, I don't hang my feet from take off. I just run into the back of BMWs at stop signs.

This looks like the appropriate thread to ask a question that's always bothered me...

Where do I put the gasoline in my FJR???

Last time I put it in one of the sidebags, my rainsuit got all wet and smells like petroleum to this day.

You pour it all over your riding suit, while you are wearing it. Then you light a cigarette!

Enjoy!
