I'm planning a trip to Italy this summer, but regretably not on a motorcycle.
I was in Europe (Germany, France, Spain, Malta, Italy) 2 years ago and really regretted not having a functioning cell phone, so this time will be different. My phone at the time was a CDMA only phone (primary Verizon freq) and could not function using the standard GSM service in Europe. I now have a quad mode Droid 3 that will work. But even with Verizons international $5 monthly service activated, you still pay over $1 per minute for use. A much better option I found is at telnamobile.com (I use telna for my home phone long distance because of their ultra cheap rates). Pay $19 to get their SIM card, get the unlock code from Verizon and insert the new card. You get a US phone number that you can forward you normal cell number to and then you phone will work just like it does at home at much cheaper rates. You can also download a Droid app that will automatically switch your phone calls to Wifi whenever you are on a wifi network for free incoming calls and very cheap outgoing calls. Sorry to sound like an ad for this company, but I'm looking forward to being connected on future trips without spending a fortune.
Don, I finally made it to Berlin on my last trip to Germany and the one thing that stood out from my visit was a walking tour I took with my family. We had a tour guy named Nigel that was currently a history professor and a UK spy during the cold war. Absolutely incredible insight he had and very interesting stories were told during our tour. If you're interested, I can probably look up what tour outfit we used and pass that info on to you.
And I gotta say I'm jealous of you lucky dogs that get to ride over there. It's one of those things that high up on my bucket list. Ya'll have fun! :yahoo:
