I just sold my CRF-250X today. I'm getting to that age where things break instead of bend if I take a digger riding dirt bikes.

With a little extra cash on hand, I was thinking about upgrading my OEM suspension on my 07. I'm not a very aggressive rider, but do wick it up occasionally. I've noticed more and more that the bike tends to "wallow" especially if pushed at all or if hiting any bumps while in a corner. I spoke with the folks at Race Tech and they offered "Forum" discounts, but it's still a hefty chunk of change to upgrade the bike. Maybe, if I get a few of you on the Forum to tell me to quit being such a cheap bastard that would help me make up my mind. Thanks in advance!

Quit being such a cheap bastard! You WILL appreciate the custom suspension and I guarantee you will wonder why the hell you waited so long to do it.

Racetech is one of several excellent suspension shops out there that will no doubt provide you with some quality components.

Just DO it!

Quit being such a cheap bastard!

Actually, I've been putting off doing the same thing...from one cheap bastard to another.

Yeah quit being such a cheap bastard and go get aftermarket suspension. My FJR suspension was shot at 25k miles if not sooner. I went with GP front fork upgrade and a Penske in the rear. A very good investment. It makes the bike much more lively and connected to the road. No more lazy handling.

When you quit being such a cheap bastard and upgrade your suspension you will love your FJR even more. I went with Traxxion Dynamics and am glad I spent the money. So do it and then you can be just a plain ol' bastard like me.

Quit being a cheap frugal bastard.

No matter which option you choose, your FJR [and you] won't be disappointed!

If, as you say, you have 'cash on hand' - go for it!

I have just completed a front and rear Traxxion upgrade, new steering-head bearings and new tires. Unfortunately, I won't know how much better things will be until Spring

My choice was simple, fork out a couple of grand or buy a new bike - I am a cheap bastard

Can I afford it ?

I used the race-tech compression/rebound valving and springs on my 05 and it made a huge difference in handling. The installation is not hard if you already rebuild (or have rebuilt) any typical cartridge fork. It took me a Saturday to do bushings, seals, race-tech valving and spring. Well worth the effort.

Race-Tech also makes a rear shock for the FJR as well.

After a full suspension upgrade your FJR will feel like a new bike but better than the one you originally purchased. Serious "Wow!" factor. Not so expensive relative to actually buying a new bike. I don't know that there's much of anything that can compare to a custom suspension set up specifically for YOU.

Well done everyone!! I'm convinced!!! Going with the springs and Gold valve kit up front and the Race Tech shock. I just need to figure out if I need the shock that includes ride height adjustment and hydraulic pre-load. It runs about $300 more than other one. The gentleman who does the engine and suspension work on our nephew's MX bikes is going to help me with the R&R and setup. It will be March before the upgrades, along with new tires, will be completed. Thanks again!!!

If you ride both 1 up and 2 up or other situations with significant weight variance or riding conditions then you need the remote pre-load adjustment. I live in the mountains and use my FJR as an old fart sport bike 99% of the time. Don't need remote pre-load but many do.

Good on you for getting the suspension upgraded.

It only looks expensive, it's really a cheap way to get a new bike.

I have a Nitron shock on the way and will either have someone upgrade the front with RaceTech or attempt it myself.I've put off a custom seat until next year. Jeff

Thank you! Due to flight schedules and this wacky mid-west weather, I finally got around to installing my RaceTech suspension. I went with the Gold Valves and springs up front and GS-3 shock. I was also due for tires and went with PR-3s. I performed all the labor myself with the exception of building the forks and tire mounting. The gentleman that looks after our nephew's MX bike did the forks for me. He does fantastic work! (Brian White Racing and Team BWR are his side gigs. Team BWR won the east coast lights Amsoil Arenacross championship this year!!). We got all the baseline stuff set up (Sag and clickers) and I took her out for a spin. I was expecting differences, but holy cow!! You all weren't just woofing when you said it makes it feel like an all new bike!! I immediately noticed that the "wallowing" when pushed or hitting a bump while cornering is gone!! Much less front end dive under braking! And much better around "feel". As I put some miles on it, I will continue to fine tune with clickers, but I think we are close now to what feels good to me.

Thanks again for convincing me to do this very worthwhile upgrade!!

The next thing I do to my bike is suspension front and back. And plan on Race Teching my suspension. I have the stock suspension settings set up great right now. But after time it will were out needing rebuilt.. After reading forums relating to suspension the miles on FJR's seen to be across the board when the suspension is replaced. What is the average miles on a FJR when suspension is really needing to be serviced??.

I had KFG install GP suspension fork kit and Penske shock. Best upgrade I've done to Porky. Well worth the money.
