LegalSpeeding.com is no longer producing water-resistant rain plastic rain enclosures for the Escort 8500 series.

Said he would have to make 1,000 per run to meet economies of scale.

Damn.

Anyone else have other vendors?

I recall Jeff Ashe saying he might be game..

:****: Doesn't everyone know it rains cats n' dawgs n' camels too here in Kali?

How about wrapping the RD with food wrap?
That's always a throwback solution, and also plastic baggies.. but I just leave the RD in the plastic condom all the time, even when parked. I pull the Zumo due to the higher cost (we all have our 'oh shit it's been stolen thresholds) and the only time I pull it from the FJR is when I'm riding Wabs, the DL650.

As much of an expensive, total POS those LegalSpeeding covers are/were... I love both of mine.

Don just reminded me to get busy, make a mold, and produce.

Yes, please Jeff. My LS cover is quickly approaching it's end of life, and I'd rather have something a little more custom and form-fitting than the Ziploc bag solution.

I'm with JamesK, mines old and showing some scars.....................Please Jeff.

I'm in the market for one of these as well Jeff. Let's get those molds made!

I've got a 12" x 12" vacuum forming table here at work. Might see what I can throw together. It will turn out like a form fitting blister pack (thin flexible plastic) cover if it works.

What about mounting it in a small waterproof container like this:

also a good idea. I'm hoping that the vacuformed cover will allow you to still push the buttons through the cover.

The feature that makes the Legal Speeding type of covers so valuable (to me) is that the outer case is form fitting and (just barely) soft enough that you can still operate the push button controls through the case. You can't adjust the volume dial, but that seldom never needs adjusting once you find a comfortable level. Being able to mute the beeping is very worthwhile. I also like to be able to switch to night time (dark screen) stealth mode. No need to advertise that I'm using an RD to the po-po following behind me. ;)

One thing that I had to do to my LS cover was add a small piece of foam next to where the volume /on/off dial is on the RD. The inside surface of the case was rubbing on the dial which eventually would intermittently work its way to the "off" position. My RD was shutting itself off and back on, with all of the reboot histrionics that entails, with every bump in the road. The foam strip just spaces the rotary dial switch away from the case.

That sucks. My cover works, but is starting to crack in places. I kind of thought, I'd just get another when it became time. Looks like I might have waited too long. :angry2:

I have one that doesn't fit my 9500, you want it Don?

R
Richard,

Let me have it first, then I'll send it on to Don. I need an original that has not been altered to help with the mold design. All my covers have been cut/trimmed to fit on the Skyway RD mount.

I'm sure Don won't mind delaying it a week or two.

Tom, let's see what Jeff can come up with, or if the two of you can collaborate.

Fred, YES. Nothing worse than having the audio full blast when the Po-Po is Po-Po'ing. Additionally, I have a visual alert, 5 bright LED's that flash in my face (and visible to the Po-Po's via reflection..) and even if I press 'mute' the LED's seem to lock in and stay flashing. I have to cover the LED's with my glove - paranoia perhaps?

Totally, fully, 100% agreed.I'll pay shipping if needed. Hmmn, I have a slightly modified top half (custom hole for cables input) and farily decent bottom should you need it.

Support those that support you! :yahoo:

I have a perfect new bottom, and an unaltered top but I using it, I guess I can loan it if I get a deal on the 1st run of these. let me know if you need them.
