Use Turtle Wax or something like it. Just no compound type stuff or Zymol that has small abrasives in it. It all does the same thing: It fills in the small pits and imperfections so water can't stick to them and beads off.Easy!
This^^^^ is what I do as well. Non abrasive wax works great on the windshield and makes bug removal easier too.

Yes. A good pure wax or even detailer spray (not as long lasting) works and I've never seen anything bad happen to my shields over the years.

I love my Plexus, but it is costly.
About $27.00 a can here at dealers and cycle shops here in California, ridiculous!
Great product, but I also balk at the price. But deals can be found on ebay:

https://www.ebay.com/itm/New-Plexus-Plastic-Cleaner-Protectant-and-Polish-13oz-/370717648051?pt=Apparel_Merchandise&hash=item56507e64b3&vxp=mtr
Even cheaper than eBay, on Amazon.com with free shipping if the order is over US$35.00 total.

Cheers,

Infrared

You will think I am nuts but I use multi-purpose pledge in the spray bottle and micro fiber cloth. I clean my whole bike with it. it's very cheap, you can get it anywhere. Because it's a hand spray bottle you don't find it like some cans still containing product but no propellant. I have a Cee Bailey windshield and a transitions face shield. I has not caused any issues and cleans the grime and bugs off nicely. I researched all the products as well. I wipe my bike down after most rides. don't use rain-x, great product on glass, don't use it on plastics. it will over time damage plastics.

We used to sell a lot of Honda Spray Cleaner, often referred to as "Honda Polish"

Nobody offers a more comprehensive line of motorcycle-specific oils and chemicals than Pro Honda. Developed through the performance and durability testing of professional racing, these Honda motorcycle oil and service products are crafted to the same high exacting standards as your Honda.

  • The #1 selling original industry standard.
  • Exclusive Honda formula - superior performance at an economical price.
  • Complete detailer in a can.
  • Cleans road grime, grease, and bugs without water.
  • Polishes paint, chrome, glass, and clear plastic.
  • Protects vinyl, plastic, and rubber.
  • Blocks UV rays to reduce fading and cracking.
  • Repels water and makes it bead up like on a wax finish.
  • Anti-static properties reduce dust buildup.
It is available for about $5.00 per Aerosol Can.

Now lets get serious, won't my FJ melt if I use a Honda product on it

As Howie pointed out, it won't "melt." It may get fatter, slower and hotter though. So, the alternative is to go to your Yammi dealer and puck up a can of Yamalube Spray Polish and Detailer. Its black and yellow, and appears to be an exact copy of the Honda stuff, which doesn't have Honda's name on it anymore. I think it's now called "Pro-Polish," in the same black and pink can.

FWIW, as someone mentioned above, I carry a small spray bottle of quick detailer with me. Mostly for cleaning off my tank before I reinstall magnetic tank bag.

Mihalis, you've spent enough time here on the forum to know better than to do ANYTHING "as Bustanut said" unless you REALLY like spending some quality "alone time" with some of the woolier residents of Mount Penteli.

I just about choked myself!

Mihalis my good friend, Bustanut joker is gemátos skatá in Greek and his favorite flavor is próvata skatá.

By the way Mihalis, I wouldn't try the potato trick but maybe Bustanut joker is on to something.
