Just as an FYI, I tried several Yamaha OEM parts places and Yamaha itself and the test coupler adapter part is discontinued. Yamaha said I should just take it in under warranty. They might be right. In reading through my shop manual, the part about the proportioning valve makes me wonder if it slows the rear wheel from reaching the lock point. To say that in another way, when I tested locking the brakes and had the front ABS actuate but not the back, the back did not lock. Although it is purely speculation but maybe the proportioning valve just did not allow me to get to the conditions for lock and ABS activation.

Thanks Old,

I don't need the test coupler. It's easy enough to handle the testing with a couple alligator clips and my volt meter test probe. That test plug is huge: lots of room in there. It's no problem to insert a couple alligator clips in to grab the tabs. No biggie. That's already done anyway. You said that Yamaha said to just take it in under warranty. Oh well: I've got an 05... no warranty here.

You spoke of a rear brake that wouldn't lock. I have no such problem. The rear brake indeed locks up, and that IS the problem. At the moment, it's looking like that metering block is my problem, and with nothing used available online that I can find right now, looks like I'm dead in the water for the moment. I'll just put her back together and ride. After all, it's Florida. I've got a LOT of miles to put in during the next 5 months.

Gary, my 05 with 64k on the clock is in the same boat. At the reported cost of a new block I've come to terms with not having abs. If you find a solution, inquiring minds want to know.

Gen III procedure on test 2 is different. You need to have the kickstand down and in gear before you hit start so it doesn't "start". Got pulses front and rear so it's OK, just don't know why mine locked up that one time. Not going to lose sleep over it. Wasn't the first time my back end slid, and it may not be my last.
