I am replacing the rear pivot bearings on my 2006 FJR 45k miles in the UK (yes ridden during our luvley winters)

And looking at prices fro the completed bearing/collar/seals for all 3 mounting points + the one in the swinging arm as they all look a bit dry/rusty etc.

Does anybody know the actual sizes (mm dia etc) so that i can try and source from a local bearing supplier ?

Looks like no one wants to handle this...........

It looks like you are prepared to do the work yourself and that is a major saving over taking it to a Dealer.

If the bearings look a bit dry/rusty then you will need to replace the collars as well.

If you can afford to take the bike off the road for a few weeks then strip it down and have a look at all the bearings, collars & seals and decide which will need to be replaced, then put your order in. Might be worth getting in touch with your local Dealer to establish supply times.

Alternatively have a look on e-bay.

Have you had a look at the FJ Owners Club ?

Yeh managed to get them from the guys at https://www.fjclub.co.uk

all 6 bearings/collars/seals around £150 - bargain...

The end bearings, dogbone end and shock end were very very dry and rusty , so have removed them and wil defo replace them.

The other end of the dogbone on the s/arm look fine as does the centre blind bearings, albeit a small wear mark on the centre collar .

Do these ones wear or is it mainly the shock and other dogbone end ?

Are they worth replacing as i know getting the blind bearings out is supposes to be a bitch....

If i can get them out i will , but havnt found a good way , even a blind bearing puller or dyna bolt would be differcult as they are open needle rollers and the bearing case is very fine...and a dyna/blind bearing puller may squash the bearing case against the allly pivot bearing surface...

Only if you don't want to increasingly blow shocks. At 160K I finally saw the light and replaced that blind bearing. Shock life increased by an order of magnitude. ;)

How did you get the blind bearings out (1 each side) ?

I have been trying to find a needle roller blind puller , i may also give this stuff ago , frreze the bearing first

"Arctic Crack It - shock freeze spray"

ALL of the bearings & collars need to be in good condition and properly greased, without exception.

It is possible to remove the bearings using a blind hole bearing puller, plenty of heat and lots of swearing.

If you have a service manual it will give you the recommended clearances when you press in the new bearings.

Enjoy!...........

Nobody seems to have answered the original question about substitute bearings for the suspension pivots, which is too bad because I was interested in the answer.

I've messed around with a lot of mechanical stuff and I have never run across bearings exactly like those in the FJR relay arm (or swingarm at the end of the dog bones) before.

They are not a "unitized" bearing, like we are used to seeing in most other applications. The inner race is the long sleeve that makes up the spacer for the pivot, and the outer race is a semi circular "shell" that is pressed into the bearing's bore to (somewhat) constrain the bearings loose rollers. I seriously doubt that anyone will be able to find any "off the shelf" replacements since that inner race appears to be a proprietary part for the application.

That said, I'd be really interested if anyone has found a source for any part of these bearings as I have a backup relay arm sitting on my FJR parts shelf that needs rebuilding to be ready for install when needed.

Then again, with proper and regular servicing, my old '05 (now my son's) relay arm still looks great at 100k miles when I pulled it out last for a regreasing. Maybe this is a moot point when good maintenance is followed? And before anyone casts aspersions as to my fair-weather riding, yes I did ride that bike in the rain. A lot. ..and snow... and nasty salty winter roads... Perhaps more than the average bear, I would suspect.
