In responding to Carver RFH said, "He was just overly grouchy this trip and I can fix that"

RFH I sincerely respect all you did on this trip and publishing this ride report - excellent stuff. But nobody can fix another person behavior.

I maybe able to accommodate another by change my behavior and changing my trip plans to accommodate a person's preferences, but taking responsibility for fixing their behavior ain't' gonna happen.

As beemerdon's says, Just Saying Enough Said.

Of course I may have zeroed in on a minor detail and I am being stupid to mention this. If so I can handle that critique too.

Carver, the idea is a great one and I sometimes consider just taking off for my own enjoyment. However, I usually restrict that to rides of just a few hours or so.
I love riding by myself, no one fusses about my corner speed, my acceleration rate, or my route. However, I miss Pop and I feel guilty. For whatever reason I want to drag the Old Man to as many of the great sights and locations of this country as I can before... Well before I no longer have that opportunity. I get so much enjoyment out of showing him places like Pike's Peak, The Grand Canyon, Hwy 141, the list of places I want to show him is endless.

I speak to Pop every day. He does not know it yet but there is a new (used) Cee Bailey on its way, there is a replacement brake pedal coming and I am trying to decide what to do with his seat. I am confident that he will be riding with me again soon. He was just overly grouchy this trip and I can fix that.
I get it.

I spent years burning limited vacation time to Oregon and 'spending' it with Pops.

Then the SOB gives up and dies at 95..

The decision point then is..

Ride alone..

Ride with Pops..

Ride w/ the 'the crew'...

Gotta go.. my 14 year old labbie needs loving and time for him draws nigh.

need to spend time with Harley-D-Dawg.

....just like you need to with Pops.

I think you get it.

The group dynamics is one of the things that make motorcycle travel a lot better than traveling in a car. Even in a group you are riding alone or with a single pillion. Each rider is responsible for himself and you only have to listen to complaints when you stop. You can even turn off the comm. system if necessary.

Whew, almost missed this one. Been so busy I haven't been on the forum in over a month I think. I'm glad I caught it. I'd like to ride with pops, we could have our own com channel so we can ***** about all the fiddle faddle at every stop. And damn, that fender extender was fugly.

Too bad you couldn't swing through the DFW area on your way, I'd have lent pops my saddle for the trip. Oh well, go buy him one.

Major props to your dad for leaning far enough to bend the brake lever. That's a long way over on the big piggie.

You broke a waffle iron two years in a row? Are you sure your 11 hour days aren't from the 6 hours spent fixing what you broke in the first five? Maybe your work can do (better) without you for two weeks in a row next time.

And why the heck are all these pics so darn familiar?

Thanks for the RR! I enjoyed it; and great pics! Next summer Fang and I are taking a trip to Europe (at least we think we are), and taking a bunch of our kids and their suitors. I'm thinking it might be a good idea to have a pre-trip meeting, for everyone to say what it is they want to see, how they like their day to go, etc. I took a trip 10 years ago to Spain with my wife and brother- and sister-in-law. I was miserable for 10 straight days! It turned out all four of us had completely different ideas about what we liked to see, when we wanted get started, what to eat, how we liked to travel, etc. (And everyone knows there's no one on the planet easier to get along with than me. Just ask Fang.

Just looking for a place to put this and this thread seemed appropriate...

I have "planned" a trip for the second week in September for just me and Pop. This one is planned very loosely. I have no definite time frame, no hard limits for mileage on any particular day and not even any definite places to stay. I am doing the same level of research and will have my little notebook with info but we will be much more relaxed and less structured.

Pop asked for a Custom Seat and after a great deal of soul searching we made a decision and that seat should arrive next week. I will post on that in an appropriate venue when it arrives. I removed the "Barn Door" Cee Bailey screen and installed a smaller lightly tinted Cee Bailey that I bought from a forum member. The bike is really getting to be personalized for Dad.

Pop is excited about just the two of us and no set destinations or times. My two cousins both contacted me to tell me that Pop was "fired up" about this trip.

IF all goes well and IF my job does not interfere... I will do my best to post an RR.

Some of the best rides I've had were the ones that I let the bike pick the road. Hope you both have a safe and enjoyable trip.

RFH...Seriously:

Patch and I will be in NO the nights of Sept 22 and 23 on our way to EOM. We're going to Calhoun GA after NO and then Maggie Valley for the meet. Why don't you and your dad time your ride near that. You could hook up with us, or just go to EOM by yourselves.

You're welcome to join us, and I know we'd have fun in NC. Since I don't have any feelings, if you decided halfway through to do some thing else, I'd be ok with that too. There will be no whining or bitching from us.
