I like the idear. Any chance of the outing being in April? Spring foliage would be a nice touch, and I think May may be too late. But I still like the idear.

Depends on where you are. The rhododendron and azaleas are generally blooming the last week in May/first week in June on the southern part of the Blue Ridge Parkway.

I like either the 1st or 3rd weekend of June. This will work with CFO & CFR. Actually the 1st weekend may work better, because it would give a few days between meets.

Also I think a motorcycle friendly campground with cabins, showers, store, restaurant or some kind of place to get a meal, would be awesome. I suppose riding to get meals is OK, but morning coffee at the camp would be nice.
Coffee or whisky and beans around the camp fire. Wasn't that or isn't that Blazzing Sadles ?
I pack a 4/5 cup pot on my trips with a two burner stove, so depending on how many show up. Coffee is part of camping for me. I think I have a second pot around here somewhere. Might have a few grinds in it, but it works for me.

Beans and campfires can be dangerous!

My riding season got cut short at the end of october due to yet another leg injuring accident. So I am definitely looking forward to a nice bike trip. Is it spring yet??????

Im in for camping. already have a couple other rides scheduled so as long as it doesn't land on any of those dates I'll be there.

Over at the ST-0wners forum they do a BRP ride and get together every fall, been doing it for years and they have it down to a science. I have not attended just read the post ride reports.

They usually get a campground with both cabins and tents to meet everyones needs. "uncle phil" usually sets up the venue might try contacting him for ideas.

Douthat State park, near Covington VA and Monongahela national forest is great and has pretty nice cabins. Also Misty Mountain campground near Afton Mtn ie blue ridge and skyline minutes away, is also another good choice. Sounds fun to me.

I've been reading about people camping while they travel, reading about a camping meet in Kali, and have camped a little bit on previous mcy trips.
I was wondering if people would be interested in a regional camping meet that is based somewhere in the Appalacians for 2 or 3 days. I'm thinking late spring or very early summer (ie comfortable, not too cold at night, not too hot during the day, and late enough so there is lesser likelyhood for rain).

I'm thinking base camp for 2 or 3 days, in a great area for mcy riding, so we can rip around( or sightsee) during the day, and group camp at night. I'm looking for camping recommendations in the southern WV, far eastern KY, northeastern TN, far western VA, and northwestern NC areas.

Maybe we could have one group meal, but I presume it would be best if everybody fixes their own meals, as people will be coming back from their rides at different times...but then we could have a group campfire at night to discuss the days riding, share a beverage or two, lie about how good you are on an FJR, and kickback under the stars. :)

Does that sound good to you? ...If so, chime in in this here thread. :clapping:

I've never organized a regional camping meet before, but if somebody gives some good recommendations, and I get some help, maybe we can get this thing off the ground.
Count me in as Person Of Interest!!!

All depends on work and other stuff like most but would like to try it out. I'm up for early or late rSpring if I had a choice. Or if in the Summer, keep it in the Mountains.

Keep me posted and Ill keep following the thread. If you need some help with anything, give shout. I dont know how much time I can put in but let me know.

Thanks Rick...I'll keep you apprised when it comes to help. I'll probably need help from those closer to the possible camping location...

yeah, I could go on some scouting runs for you, if need be. Or help also, any way I can to make this easier on you.

I'm near Winchester,va (about a 4 hour ride from Marlington, Wv). So I could cover a good portion of western, Va or eastern side of W,va for a nice day of scouting when the weather improves. South or west of those areas would require an overnight stay. Which is fine also.

Holly River was another place I've camped at. Not sure of cabins though. Middle of Wv, just east 79 on Rt20. But that might be a little far north

Btw, rt20 is a nice north to south ride through WVa if your not taking interstates.
