Hello

This week I got rear ended by another biker. He hit the right side case and the case went flying. Beside the scratches, which I can live with until I repaint it in the winter, the other damage is the plastic pin that lock the bag onto the bike (the one that move up when the handle is folded). Damage on the bike is very minor, only one or two scratches on the tail platic where the case top hooks goes into the tail.

I'm wondering if the case can be repaired (the pin not the estetic) before my next trip. Look like the case is made of two shells one into the other and held by some kind of rivets. The other thing I'm wondering is if the parts to repair the case can be bought from the dealer or if they only sell the complete case (which I wouldnt be surprised).

so is there anyone else has tried a repair like that who can tell me if it can be done?

thanks very much!

Marc

Were you riding with TriggerT?

Honestly, I think the most cost effective fix might be to buy a rashed bag off ebay and then put your outside shell/cover on it. The bags are the same for all years so buying a silver one on the cheap would get you what you want/need.

I'm 99% sure Yamaha doesn't sell the internal bag mechanism parts so you'd have to source that anyway. I'd be skeptical of any type of 'repair' to that plastic.

IIRC, I think I read here somewhere that Yamaha does not offer parts, just a new and very expensive bag....which the rear-ender would be buying me, thank you very much! ;)

Why aren't you dinging his insurance for a new bag? Seems the easiest and most pain-free option rather than wasting all your time trying to repair something someone else broke for you. I don't understand this post at all.

Two things:

-insurance in Canada dont exactly work like in the US. My insurance pays for the damage even if I'm not responsible for the accident. EDIT: and the case is probably worth less than the deductible on my assurance policy

-I want to have a quick fix before my next trip which is in two weeks.

Shiloh, I have a right side back with the lid not so good! the back or mounting part is OK as far as I can tell! You pay shipping etc and it's yours.

Very generous offer there jmgrif...

...for me, unless offender was a family member, the assaultee would be sending me cash for the damage. :clapping:
