Long range weather is looking good so roust out all your friends and bring them along.

I'm not sure how accurate Don's list is but it looks pretty good. More is better.

I had a meeting with the high mucky muck of the local deer union #56678 and made it clear to stay off the road.:) :) :) :)

Missed it by just "that" much! I'm arriving in Sacramento for a business trip on 9/7. If Rueben Run would have been the following week, I could have done it.

Of course since I'm flying, there is the small matter of a bike.

So I understand the poker run is on Saturday. What is planned for Friday ?
I will be doing this route on Friday. It doesn't get any better:

This is an awesome route. Small word of advice; the southern half of 242 is extremely curvy and narrow. It is a lot of fun, but you need to watch for other vehicles cutting corners, and the gravel they leave in the road.

Also, if I was coming to La Pine from the south, and had the time, I would skip Highway 97 and take I-5. Believe it or not, the southern part of I-5 through Oregon is pretty nice, especially compared to 97.

Just over the border from CA. you climb the Siskiyou Pass, highest point on I-5, then there are several other passes and curvy sections.

You can head east at Canyonville on the Tiller-Trail Highway, take Highway 138 from Roseburg, (my favorite road), or even wait until Eugene and Highway 126 or 58.

Whichever way you choose, just come and have fun!

I might drop out the Mt Bachelor part and save it for another day as last year I was taken up to Waldo Lake and that was pretty awesome!

I am leaving from Seattle area Friday and will do a long route about 575 miles there, passing through Fossil. Holler if anyone wants to join.

Hwy 227 Canyonville to Trail.

This is a good road to ride but..... Riding buddy went to ride it last weekend and said there was major road work going on. Long sections torn up. He turned around and went back to Trail. A better road next year.

Just checked with the hotel and there are a handful of rooms left so If you're thinking about it you better get at it.

Thanks for the assist, I should check Trip Check before recommending!

I would, but......I already did.....even if Papa Chuy Viejo, who is, after all, "retired and worthless," seems to have missed the somewhat-less-than-explicit post.

I am going to be riding down on Thursday with a group from the Seattle area. I have not booked a room yet. Does anyone have a room booked that needs a roommate? PM me if so.

Heading down Thursday too. Plan to leave 7AM ish and have a slow leisurely two-up ride down.

I did 242 last week on the Niner. Road is in good shape. No need trying to keep up on this road. Just use good common sense and ride safely as the road is narrow with out any shoulders and has multiple switch backs, one after the other. When you come out of one, you are into the next corner so there isn't any time to adjust. Meaning, if you are wide on one, you are totally wrong for the next one. With heavy bikes like the FJR you really must ride with in your capabilities, but that is only about 4 miles worth, the rest is mostly normal. This is not a road to avoid, it is one of the best motorcycle roads in Oregon and all should ride it. Also, the scenery is spectacular, if you get a chance to look around. In the tight stuff, you don't have time to look around. All I know is there are trees, rocks and steep slopes on each side of the road. I don't look at them.

I did 242 a couple of weeks ago, west to east, the first time in 32 years. The road was in very good shape and more switchbacks than I remembered. Unfortunately, I got stuck behind 3 BMWs who were not very skilled riders. Didn't know what to do, it would have been easy to blast by them one at a time coming out of any of the switchbacks but it also seemed like it would have been rude to do so. Finally stopped for a couple of minutes to give them some space but still caught them at the top. They pulled off at a lookout and we waved. I need to go back and do it again.

redneckj has been added to the attendance list. If you're riding with Niehart, don't pull his finger if he asks you to redneckj. Trust me on this one, ese! JSNS!

I rode 242 for the first time this year. I was in the woods doing the switchbacks and came across a guy from Alberta just standing there in his helmet and riding gear, NO bike. It went off into the woods. Ill tell the story of that adventure while in LaPine.
