Rev limiter... not really.

My experience at New England Dragway shows that the 1st stage of the rev limiter hits at 10,000 and the 2nd stage at 10,500. Feejer runs quicker if you shift ~8.5k RPMs so bumping the rev limiter is a real screw up on my part. I have a hard time getting a good launch and shifting on time in 1st and sometimes 2nd gear. It is imperative for *me* to have my foot on the shifter when I launch because I can't get to the peg in time otherwise. It is amazing how fast Feejer gets to red line! Then again, maybe it is because Feejer's red line is so low compared to my other bikes.

Concur with IONBEAM, you're better off shifting at approx 8.5K than dancing on the rev limiter. FJR produces bulk of power at 8.5K, not at/near redline like the more supersport oriented bikes.

10.5 is about double the rev limiter on my Warrior - it gets to 5k VERY quickly and it's no fun. That's one of the reasons I've got an 06 on order! :D

I used to hit the rev limiter on my 103 ci 100th anniv Road King. What a pig.

WaaaaaaAAAAAAAAh....BLEH...wwaaaahhhhhHHHHH....BLEH.... Weee! Doing about 60. What a pig.

In comparison, I have gone 110+ on the FJR in 3rd, and NEVER hit the rev limiter. And it does seem like I have to REALLY hold on when I get that revved.

Only noticed getting up to the red zone a couple times. That's scarey wound out for me. I'll have to try harder. ;)

Unless the rev limiter was designed with a NASA-like redundancy, I can't see much of a point for a second stage.

How would you EVER hit stage 2? Once you hit stage 1, the engine dies, you lose a couple thousand revs, the engine catches, revs back up to the stage 1 limit and again the engine dies, etcetera, etcetera, etcetera.

How do you get to stage 2? To get to the alleged 10.5K stage 2 rev limit, you've already killed your motor at the 10.0K rev limit.

Or is the 1st stage rev limiter so ineffective, a 2nd stage was deemed necessary?

And if stage 1 is so unreliable, maybe we shouldn't trust stage 2, unless air mailing pistons becomes a new FJR pasttime.

Finally, is the rev limiter a fuel cutoff type of limiter, as is the case with most fuelie vehicles, or is it an electronic coil-killer, like it is on my carbureted ZRX?

Is there any documentation on the rev limiter, or is this entire discussion gonna be based on anecdotal information?

I agree with Ion, I have raced at the strip and 10.5 is the limit. I have also found the top end of 161mph@9k. I think the combination of my fat ass and wind resistance wont let it go past that point

I did that "once" and never again! But what a rush!! I think everyone needs to know the limits of this beast! ;)
