Hey!! I just got spammed with this info, and this is the good kind of spam (if there is such a thing).

Apparently, Rocky Mayer (aka Bill) has been busy working on new designs for his seats. Definitely might be worth a look for those of you that can't deal with the Russell wing thing.

Ergo Contour Seat by Bill Mayer

Well Russell called yesterday, the seat is completed and shipped, a month and a half early. The lady said they got ahead in the schedule, and since mine was there already they went ahead and did it. Should be here on friday, I can't wait. :yahoo:

You might think about buying a lottery ticket...

Should have. I went to the little bar/casino my girlfriend works at and won $8. I celebrated with about $20 worth of beer though, and gave her my winnings to begin with, so I don't know how well I really did. :p

Anyways, The seat's here, took it on a little test-ride last night. The girlfriend on the back said it is the most comfortable motorcycle seat she's ever been on. That is counting the Harley touring seat on my Road King, and the Mustang on my Sportster. We were taking highway home around 10 or so, she was dozing off on the way back.

My end, the verdict is still out. It is definitely the most comfortable seat I've ridden on by far. I think it's a bit 'off' though. I kept sliding foreword, and it seemed to put me farther back than usual. I'll give it a break in for a while and see what happens. I'll try to detail my thoughts:

The 'pocket' sets me a bit farther back, giving me a longer reach to the bars. I think when I had the Sargent I switched off between sitting where I belong and sliding all the way foreword, and now I lost that option a bit. I have short arms and bad shoulders, so that has a lot to do with it. I had shoulder pain by the time I got home, maybe 150 miles or so. To correct that I think I either need to have the pocket moved foreword or move the bars back.

The seat seems angled foreword a bit, and the cover is slippery , so I was sliding foreword. This may have been because I was reaching for the bars more than before, or may be because the seat isn't broke in yet. I don't really know at this point.

I'll give it a bit and see what happens though. I might have to send it back for a small adjustment after break-in.

@Jules -

When I received my Russell I felt that it was canted forward and slid me into my tank a lot too. After a few hundred miles of "testing" I contacted Russell and asked them to either build up the front nose area or scoop out the rear more, to create a better "pocket" and reduce the sliding. They opted for the latter, which has worked out fantastically.

Before I got the seat Russellized I was happy with the handlebar position relative to the seat and pegs. Afterward, now sitting a bit further from the tanks and higher, I just needed a set of Heli risers (1st gen) to get me back to nearly the same seat bars distances and angles, and it had the side benefit of more leg room.

Some of this type of "re-work" could be eliminated by knowing exactly what you want, where you want to sit, etc. and verbalizing that when you submit your pictures and seat order. But for most of us, we don't really know what we want until we first "try it on." That is part of why they do free comfort adjustments.

PS - I too used to slide forward and back on my prior seats, usually to relieve a hot spot. With the reworked Russell I can keep my *** planted at the same location pretty much all day. Hope it works out for you as well as it has for me.
