My wife and I are planing a trip on the Labor day weekend and

would like some help and recomindations of sites to see.

I have planed the following routes and hope some of you can

point out places to see near these routes.

Burlington,WV to Staunton,Va - Friday Afternoon

Staunton,Va to Independence,Va - Sat.

Independence,Va to Hurricane,WV - Sunday

Hurricane,WV to Burlington,WV - Monday

I have some leeway but don't want more than 250-275 miles in a day

for the wife's first multiday trip.

A plus is that we can stretch the trip till Tuesday if we need to or find

something else we want to see.

Any help or ideas are very much appreciated.

Thanks

Chuck

Looks like you are focusing on the northern Smoky Mtns. Me personally, I would lose some of the VA miles in favor of Tenn., especially if you can venture out as far as Roan Mtn.

Only thing is, you can bet on all the park systems having heavy traffic for Labor Day weekend.

Chuck,

If I were in Independence and wanted to get to WV, I would definitely choose Rt 16 N from Volney, VA over to Tazewell, VA. From Volney to Marion is not that impressive; but the 3 mtns from Marion to Tazewell - OH MY! At Tazwell, you might consider a brief side trip up 61E to 623 and into Burke's Garden (a.k.a. God's Thumbprint). Back track to Tazewell and continue 16N to Pineville, WV. Pickup Rt 10 thru Logan (and on towards Huntington) until you intersect Rt 34 to Hurricane. I'm not sure of the mileage, but it's a Chubby Checker route from start to finish!

Have fun,

Jim

P.S. Please bear in mind that Mr. Ashe is inherently biased against all VA rides (it's a radar detector thing) :D

Jim, thanks alot I thought you had told someone that Rt.16 was a nice

road to travel.

And Jeff thank you for your time. I will keep your recomindations handy

for our next trip (hope she goes on another trip).

This is my wifes first multiday trip and I'm hoping for the best. Thats why

I want to keep the route fairly short each day.

Again thank you for your time and help.

Chuck

That stretch from Marion to Tazewell on Rt. 16 is truly exceptional. If I'm anywhere near the place, and I am a lot, I make a point of getting that ride in the day's itinerary. It ranks easily in my top ten rides.
