In case you're not aware, 9/30/05 marks the 50th anniversary of the death of James Dean. A memorial is located at Jack's Cafe, just west of the intersections of hiways 41 & 46. I am thinking of heading down there to see what's going on. There's a classic car show scheduled to begin at noon. I'll take the camera if I go, and I'll be trying to get there as quickly as possible, in His honor. Hopefully nobody will pull out in front of me. My ex-wife went to court reporting school with the daughter of the guy who pulled out in front of James Dean. Poor bastard, they call him every year. Anyway, if any of you are into this sort of thing and bored on Friday, come on up/down.

I may have to miss the 10/1 ride-in at Alice's, due to a (lack of) child care issue. Normally, I would just go it alone but that date is also the only chance we'll have to take the little angel camping this season. No plans yet but I'll post up as they develop.

Does anyone know how fast James Dean was driving the Porsche at the time of the accident?

Sorry you can't make Alice's, Bob. Nothing is more important than the time you spnend with your "Princess". Someday you'll find these are "the best of times...." and cannot be relived or replaced.

According to a report I read, the Porsche was traveling between 55 and 57 mph at the time of impact. I find it hard to believe, unless he was slowing because of the situation. But if, in fact, that's the case, nobody is safe when somebody makes a bad decision out there on the road. All we can do is make good ones, ride defensively and hope our number isn't called. Thanks for the trivia question Mike, and we'll miss you all on the 1st. Let's be careful out there.
