https://www.sancarlosplaza.com.mx/ Mis amigos; montamos el Sur para mucho Gloria y Exploracion; y mucho cerveza y posole, hombres!

We Arizona FJR Forum Members ride South to Mexico for Fun and Fiesta, mis compadres! Friday through Sunday, April 9-11, we'll be staying at the muy bonita San Carlos Plaza Hotel and Resort. This Palacio is gorgeous, great swimming and drinking! Muy bonita La Playa, great margaritas!

We will rendezvous on Friday morning, 4/9/10, at 0700 hours at the CITGO Station located at Picacho Peak on Interstate 10 at Exit 219.

Promptly at 0730 it is kickstands up and clutches out. From Picacho Peak to San Carlos is almost 400 miles: Mi moto es muy rapido, ese!

I always use https://www.mexpro.com for my Mexico Motorcycle Insurance, they've always treated Papa Chuy right and I did have a claim once!

Here are some websites to show you the incredible beauty of San Carlos and the Coastal Mountain Range: https://www.vivasancarlos.com https://www.virtualmex.com/sancarlos/pictures.htm and https://www.sancarlosmexico.com NOTE: Since tu Papa Chuy is retired, I do not plan on crossing the border on Sunday. I'm going out sportfishing on Sunday AM, anyone else enjoying saltwater fishing is welcome to join me!

When I return from fishing midday, I plan on only riding to Magdalena for the night. Will cross over into Estados Unidos at Noon on 4/12!

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Magdalena_de_Kino Magdalena de Kino is a beautiful Mexican village and I heartily recommend staying here!!!

DVD Riders, Senor Enrique "Henry" Garza's Mother is from Magdalena and I feel it is one of the prettiest towns in all of Mexico I've seen.

Father Kino is interned here in a crypt in Santa Maria Cathedral he founded here in Northern Sonora; 1687. A gorgeous town square too.

https://magdalenadekino.net/videos/video_17.html If you speak or comprehend Espanol, here's History of Father Kino and Magdalena, MEX

PLEASE NOTE: Exchange between AZ Beemers Enrique "Henry" Garza and Don Stanley. If you're staying in Magdalena on Sunday night, you'll have an opportunity to have dinner with La Garza Familia. The Garza's have lived in Magdalena since the 1600's; the Garza's came to the New World as Spanish Soldiers, escorting the Catholic Fathers throughout North America; spreading Catholicism and Spanish Authority. If you would like to have Sunday dinner with these very nice friendly people, please let me know by April 1; so Enrique can contact his family and let him know that other Americanos will be coming to dinner!

;D oh Heck yes I'm in... The land of my people. I will be your personal translator on Sunday & Monday Chuy. I will check with some family members in Magdalena so maybe we can have dinner with them on Sunday night. My Mother told me a story of a park that was above Father Kino. After they found him they removed the park and built what is there now. As a child She was sad and wished they had never found him.
".....land of our people." Enrique, we're not touring Ireland until next year hombre! Looking forward to Sunday 4/12; sounds Bueno, Senor!

ATENCION POR FAVOR: This is an exchange between AZ Beemers Mike "AZBMWRIDER" Froehlich and Don Stanley. This post is noteworthy if you were interested in riding over to Baja California Norte after touring San Carlos. You'd simply reverse the routing directions I gave Mike, spend the night in Rocky Point, Mexico.

Don after crossing into Mexico, do you plan to stay on MEX-15D all the way to San Carlos.?
Si, Miguel! I'll be on a fast FJR, not a dogsbutt slow BMW, so I will pay "Los Cuotas" and be hauling ass down MEX15-D; Arriba, hai, hai!

AZBMWRIDER: Were you thinking about crossing at Sonoyta taking MEX 8 to Puerto Penasco; then MEX 37 to South on MEX 29; then MEX 16 near Bahia Kino to Hermosillo; then MEX 15-D for rest of the way!? Forget it, that's 600 miles and 14 hours; versus 475mile/8hrs!

REMINDER: You will need a Passport for this trip, you have plenty of time to secure one for the ride!
Damn. I MUST get that done.

Papa Chuy, you are living the life! Can't make this, but it sounds like one hell of a great little trip, and hopefully, down the road, I'll have a chance to join you on a similar run to Mexico.

Happy riding, amigo.

Brother Michael, Since I'm "sin trabajo", just give me a month's notice and let me know where in Mexico you would want to ride to; and I'll be your Paddy Guide!!!

USEFUL INFORMATION FOR TRAVELING FARTHER SOUTH IN MEXICO OR CROSSING OVER TO THE BAJA CALIFORNIA PENINSULA: I thought this exchange between SkooterG and Papa Chuy might be helpful for those interested in motorcycle touring Mexico in the future. Greg, Jane and other M/C friends are considering riding to San Carlos with our group and then crossing over to Baja on the Baja Ferry. This information is also valid for further Mexico traveling.

1) You will need a Tourist Permit; however, you are required to have a Tourist Permit if you are in Mexico more than 72 hours; regardless of where you travel. Theoretically, per law, even though the States of Sonora and Baja California Norte look the other way on this: You are required to have a Tourist Permit even if you go to Rocky Point or San Felipe for over 72 hours.

Remember: You, I and Ed Quarles got our Tourist Permits for Baja California Norte y Sur at the waterfront in Ensenada. Chuck Doucet was fully convinced he did not have to have one.

In Guerrero Negro, on our return back to the Border, by the giant stylized metal Mexican Eagle; the Federales discovered Chuck didn't have his permit; he had to go to the Bank in GN and get one! If you remember, and it was almost six years ago, we had to wait for him at the Hotel La Pinta Restaurant while he was doing this. Then we all headed North again to US.

2) I have forwarded this on to Brian Boles. Brian: Please e-mail Greg all of the online information needed to get his, Jane's and "Others" Vehicle Import Permit Stickers. Brian discovered this over 2 years ago. We no longer get our Vehicle Permits at the Border, for $54 the permit is mailed to your home here in Estados Unidos. Put the sticker on here in your garage.

Your call on this one, but I always get my Vehicle Permit for the entire allowable 180 days; I always tell them I am riding to Quintana Roo, No-Man's Land, and they never question this.

Henry Garza, BB and I will walk your group through the Tourist Permit process at the Nogales Immigration Station; with Henry being your translator. Only $18 and 20 minutes time for it.

Topolobampo to La Paz Ferry experience is a once in a lifetime adventure; and, it'll save you many days of boring backtracking. It will increase your stay in BC Sur and Los Dos Cabos!

Even Henry, BB, Mel, Bob and I'll need to stop to get the Sonora Only Tourist Permit; only difference between the two is the Sonora permit is free for 10 days maximum. Same process.

Back Road Bob and I are both retired, and if Henry has Tuesday off work, and you do not want to take the ferry to get to Baja; we would escort you to Rocky Point for Monday night stay.

Here is something to consider, just ride to Baja California Medio. Give some consideration to spending a night, or two, in Bahia de Los Angeles. AZ Beemers, back when it was Phoenix International Touring Society, rode there 9 years ago; I was Ride Leader. We had an incredibly wonderful time there; you can take excursion boats out to Parque de La Guarda Island.

You already know how nice Loreto is; Santa Rosalia and Mulege are equally relaxing and rustic. I no longer can endure the crowds, hustle and hassle of Cabo San Lucas; mas gringos!

I believe you've seen the 3-ring binder notebook I have developed for Baja California; let's meet for dinner on Wednesday night and I will hand it over to you; invite Jane and "Others"! Don

https://www.bajaferries.com/index_ing.html Better yet, take the ferry from Topolobampo to La Paz; same monies, bigger ship and faster sail times.

Sunday departure is at 2300 hours. Saves a ton of miles driving down the Baja Peninsula, that you would normally just be backtracking through.

Easy drive from San Carlos to Topolobampo; just over 200 miles and Brian and I've easily ridden it four hours; don't leave S.C. until 12 on Sunday.

I sounds like a great trip. Post discharge from the military in the early 1970's , right after 1 opened I went down to Baja. I stayed for weeks in Santa Rosalia , Mulege and spent most of my time in Bahia de los Angeles. It was so beautiful and laid back. We went in a '64 International Pickup and I rode a Honda 305 scrambler down. We fished , SCUBA dived and drank. That is a trip I need to do sometime again

Wow, my mouth drops open every time I read your trips you are planning and inviting everyone on. I wish I had more vacation. Thanks for all of these rides Papa Chuy. I can only dream about going on all of these type of rides. Someday, someday...........

Ride como el Papa viento Chuy y puede que nunca su vientre vacío. Not sure if that was a compliment or a thrashing......

So Bluesy and Mark, are you two interested in riding with us on this particular San Carlos, Mexico trip? It only requires one day off from work, Friday April 9. It is a very straight forward ride back to Nogales on Mexico Ruta 15 or I could prepare you a detailed map crossing back over at Sonoita, that will save you 125 miles.

You two would be welcome to stay at my house on Thursday night if you wished. For that matter, you could also stay there on Sunday night. Nice if you could do 4 days, though. It does not make much sense to ride an additional hour north of Gila Bend/Interstate 8 to get to mi casa in Chandler. PLEASE NOTE: SkooterG, GSJane and two of their Gold Wing riding friends are also planning a trip to Baja Norte y Sur; just South of you two. It is uncertain at this time if Skooty is going to lead his crew along with us for the first three days and then use the Baja ferry system to get over to The Peninsula, over go over the top of the Gulf of California to Loreto.

Mark and Bluesy: My long time Mexico riding friend Brian Boles has pointed out to me that he believes that one does not require a vehicle import permit if you take the Guaymas to Santa Rosalia ferry. If so, Skooter and his crew may be wise to take the 11pm sailing on Saturday night, April 10; much closer to SoCal for you two!

Banjercito not needed to cross from San C to Baja. Not sure about Topolobampo.
Brian, do you mean riding over top of the Gulf of California from San Carlos to the Baja Peninsula? If so, you are indeed correct on this.

https://www.banjercito.com.mx/site/imagenes...esIITV_ing.html Brian, are you 100% certain about this. I'll check with the AZ AAA today!

Sounds great, Back Road Bob! I will get us a room with two beds. I sleep in pajamas. Just double checking here: You don't sleep in a leopard skin thong like SkooterG does, do you? It is bad enough Enrique sleeps in a red Speedo; but Skooty in that leopard skin thong: Yucko!

Thanks for taking the time to answer questions...Take plenty of pesos.

Dump the gps, maps are only to be used for toilet paper,

and Don, I will split the cost of the hotel with you.

Bob

PLEASE NOTE: 1) I was just talking to my illegitimate bastard son SkooterG regarding this Mexico ride and the topic of financed motorcycles came up. IMPORTANTE: If your motorcycle is financed and you need a Banjercito to go South of Sonora Estado or anywhere in Mexico except the Baja California Norte y Sur Peninsula - You absolutely must have an Authorization for Mexican Travel from your financing agency. These can take up to a month to obtain from them. Write for your release now!

2) A change on Sunday: After we go fishing in the morning, we will ride directly to Puerto Penasco - Rocky Point to spend the night; we are not staying in Magdalena!
