Then there's the old saying "if mama ain't happy...". You need 2 bikes. I would look around for a used Harley for around $8-10k that you can cruise on with your woman. Then spend another $5k and get yourself a nice 2006-08 FZ6 for sportier riding (Or spend a bit more for an FJR). One of the few good things about Harley's is that they hold their value...you can always sell it if need be.

Great blog. I enjoy photography also. What lenses do you carry with you and do you just pack them in one of the hard cases?

Well that's kind of the funny thing...I don't use a high end DSLR with interchangeable lens for that very reason, too much to carry around. I just use a FujiFilm "bridge camera" that looks & acts like a DSLR but it is not because you cannot change the lens. However it has a built in 30x zoom lens & also has macro capability. So that's why I got it. It's just a good all around do everything camera that fits in one small camera bag. To me it's perfect for taking on the bike and it does a "good enough" job IMO for me as a hobby right now. Oh and it was under $400 so I didn't break the bank on that either. lol

However if you already have the DSLR stuff I'd def pack a wide angle lens & a macro lens and a ND filter & Polarized filter. You can just pack that in the rear trunk and then use the saddlebags for overnight trip luggage or use the saddlebags to lock up your helmets or jackets...etc.

There are a couple of us that have great blogs here on riding. Georgia, TominCA, Puppychoe and Mine. As far as a camera, I am now using a D5100 Nikon with the lens that came on it and put the dang thing in my tank bag, no case. Bought the extended warranty on it for this reason. Fits perfect. MeAsWe carries a P&S camera and also have a Coolpic Nikon for taking pics on the go.

I appreciated your comments, I really do. In some ways your probably right. I was married 22 years and we really didn't do much together. She was there for my racing but we didn't have a hobbie together that she was involved in. This relationship of three years I have wanted to be different and have something we could both share and be passionate about. I think that's important.

She's a bit more than a rental. We have lived together for a year and been together 3. Been through a lot melding the 2 families.

That said I understand your comments and in some ways your probably right. Sometimes I think my testosterone was taken away when I signed that divorce agreement.

Sounds like your first gal and ex has alot in common with your second gal. You tried to find common ground in the first gal, and applying the same tactic to the second gal. You have come up with NADA, forget the bike and go shopping every weekend with your new gal, take out your credit card and buy her anything and everything she wants. In hind sight you will realize a brand new 2013 FJR was much more affordable while you are trying to smooze that third gal into visiting Carl Sandberg National Historic site in your 92 Toyota Corolla one weekend.

No doubt, once she finds out whats posted here, your decision will be easy plus you will have a bunch of future cash freed up.

So we went to a friends house over the weekend to watch the game and the bike discussion came up. Her friend said "what do you care what bike your on as long as your out enjoying the ride, it's about the experience". Gotta love it. My sentiments exactly.

Later that night she said "I guess it wouldn't hurt to maybe go take a look at the Yamaha.". Local dealer has a leftover 2012.

So we will go sit on it and see if it fits.

There is also a dealer in Atlanta that rents FJRs and the Harley dealer here rents Street Glides. Maybe test before buy is in order.

Funny thing is her friends husband rides a chopper. She won't ride with him. I was surprised she didn't go that route. Why rode one of those dangerous things?

You owe that lady friend alot..DEFINETLY go rent the FJR (for both YOUR evaluation and HER evaluation) for a day and go for a nice long ride. Rent the FJR first and if your GF likes the FJR why complicate the issue with renting the HD. For short jaunts around town it doesn't matter which bike you own. If you and her are only going to ride to those bike nights, hang abit and ride home, either will work. Of course if you don't like the FJR and she does like the comfort, then you gotta go test the HD for yourself to see if it is the one and bring her along as well. Again not around the block, go for the day.

Good luck with your endeavor. Oh don't let anyone tell you the HD hold their value, unless you want to justify the purchase of the bike this way. Keep us posted
