riser measurements

Been thinking about adding a riser plate to my FJR.

When I see 1.5" back or 1.5" up and back, where is that based? At the grips? Or at the triple trees?

Well, it's a measurement of the riser itself. However, it is also indicative of the final resting place of the grips.
