I have the Allstate plan, AMA's, and Progressive's...luckily I've not had to use any for the bike. From what I've read, the Allstate plan is the way to go if you have nothing else.

I once had AAA with the RV option, but it got progressively more expensive each year and I canceled it 2 years ago after it became too much. I will say this about the AAA plan (for the North Carolina region at least), they do NOT like you canceling on them; each month, and I'm not kidding, they've sent me "Welcome aboard new member" packets that give the appearance that I renewed with them...I haven't and won't. I've gone so far as to complain about the spam they're sending, but to no avail, lol. Oh well.

I put other: I have Roadside Assist on my Progressive policy it was only like $10 more. So far I hav'ent needed it (fingers crossed) :)

If your bike is still covered under Y.E.S., you pretty much get comprehensive roadside assistance, towing and reimbursement for some travel costs.

Progressive has two choices. Just roadside assistance/towing ($10/yr per bike) or roadside assistance/towing/trip interruption (hotel, meals and car)$500 max ($15/yr per bike). For trip interruption coverage, you have to be 100 miles or more from home I think. The towing is unlimited to closest qualified repair place, so if you are in backwater usa, and need a 200 mile tow, they pay for the whole thing. I think it even pays for towing from your house. Not a bad deal for peace of mind and some help in paying trip interruption costs.

Disregard: I didn't realize it was called "mototow".

I just read all of the responces and I didn't see anyone mention free towing with an AMA membership (with automatic renewal option). Has anyone used it?

Sort of an old post but I did unfortunately have to use my AMA towing when my sons one year old and newly out of warranty R6 spun a bearing and took out the crank. All vehicles in the household are covered including autos, bikes, motor homes and trailers are covered.

The call went smooth, and a friendly driver arrived shortly with a flat bed truck with the appropriate gear for hauling a bike. AMA followed up to insure the towing contractor had arrived in a timely manner and preformed well. I had just signed up for AMA a couple of months prior in anticipation of riding out to the Ohio Ramble so the one tow easily paid the first years dues. I would say it is a good investment and was very happy with the service and will continue to be an AMA member.

For what it is worth my local Yamaha dealer went to bat against Yamaha for my son’s R6 that was three weeks out of warranty and got the $3000.00 engine repair covered. Whoo Hoo!

Just an update; AAA has added a car/truck/motorcycle plan without the R/V+ coverage. Cost is $89/year...I believe.

Have had coverage for 11 years. Used once to pull truck outta ditch. Black ice incident.

I've posted about this on other threads, but since this is the current thread on the subject, I'll tell what I have--and am very happy with. Progressive insurance on the bike, and they've been outstanding to deal with, for towing and for other claims I've had to make. I've had three tows: a bike-totaling accident, a blowout just outside of Death Valley, and a rock strike that blew the tire and wrecked the wheel. The last two were almost out to the very limit of Progressive's towing coverage, which is a very generous 150 miles. (As of the last claim, the towing company charged $5.50 per mile beyond the policy limit. That gets expensive fast!)

I think in general an insurance company's road service add-on is pretty reasonable, but with Progressive it's (still--I think) under ten bucks a year! The best bargain in town, IMHO.

Farm Bureau is pretty weak on RA coverage. $50 reimbursement submitted after service. Other coverage exceptional.

But AAA seems pretty inexpensive to me($86/yr. actually) considering they cover my Car or Truck for up to 4 times per year and my M/Cs for another 4 times each year. Can't say how responsive the coverage would be if I were disabled in West Texas or the middle of WY.

American motorcyclist Association. one price and it also covers my auto. Oh and the magazine, stickers and cool pins too

All my vehicles are covered by my insurance, which is with Geico. I've used it when I had a 4am bike flat on a busy unlit interstate. They had a rollback there pretty quick. Only covers up to 50 mile transport, if I recall correctly.

100 bucks a year, 24 hr towing, any vehicle you own (rentals included I believe), spouses incl. at no cost. will tow whatever it is you broke to the nearest qualified repair place milage UNLIMITED!!! So if you break the Feej in BFE and the nearest bike shop is 100 miles, welp you get a long ride in a tow truck. all tows paid directly by them, no BS reimbursement policy.

The only downside is that I'm not sure if you can choose to go 80 miles home vs. 100 miles to a shop. Someone else wanna verify this? I've never used mine.

I lied, there's another downside, it only works in the USA. I understant it works in Canada and Mexico, but there are some policy changes like payment for the tow or something. Again, clairfication? I don't plan to travel there anytime soon.
^^^ This! All the benefits he mentions above, without the downside he mentioned - which wasn't the case.

The correct link is this one: https://www.allstatemotorclub.com/amcc/member_services/membershipplans.faces?_adf.ctrl-state=16b711xgjy_19

I have used Allstate RV Road Help once. The one downside, if at all, is that when you call, you will be speaking to someone in India. However, that was not an issue at all.

I used the service once, when a red light runner clobbered my front wheel. I called and got someone from an Indian call center on the line, although I was surprised how they were able to pinpoint my exact location/address in a matter of minutes, based on the name of a nearby business and the town that I described to her.

I was ~150 miles away from home. They wanted to tow me to the closest dealer (happened to be Yamaha) ~30 miles away (which was closed), I told her the front wheel is toast and not repairable, and even if they tow me to any dealer, they won't have a new wheel for me for at least a week. I requested specifically to be towed home (~150 miles away, remember).

The benefit of UNLIMITED mileage coverage - they towed me ~150 miles home with ZERO out of pocket costs, just sign the invoice and you are done. What do you say to that? They have a customer for life!

Yes. It worked seamlessly. A good deal, for me anyway.

A local company flatbed truck arrived in a half hour. Hard to beat.

Been towed 4 times. What has worked for me is to be seen taking pictures of the bike as the operator arrives and then continue taking pictures during the loading and securing of the bike. You will have documentation if something gets damaged by tow company. Was always able to be there for the unloading at the shop to inspect things. Operators that I met had soft ties and soft clothes to protect the bike and were careful not to damage anything. Being caught on camera didn't hurt.

Only used it one time for a flat.... but Progressive Roadside Assistance worked flawlessly. Nice flatbed with Condor wheel chalk. Me & FJR to shop I buy tires at (about 30 miles away) -- sign the paperwork. No extra fees.

ACCESSORY COVERAGE $3,000 INCL ROADSIDE ASSISTANCE WITH TRIP INTERRUPTION $15.00 $500 EACH OCCURRENCE

In May 2014 State Farm started adding Roadside Assistance, Damage to Helmets and other Protective Gear (up to $3000), and Trip Interruption Expenses (Up to $500) to their Comprehensive coverage. The Roadside Assistance is similar to auto towing coverage, free delivery of gas or other items and/or towing to the nearest repair facility. I don't know if this additional coverage is being offered in all 50 states.
