Depends on the Interstate....not all are congested
In my experience camping will be no guarantee of success. I've seen many forest campgrounds that fill up or commercial sites that cater mostly to RV'ers, packing 'em in like sardines. Yeah, pitching a tent next to an RV running it's generator or AC all night is a good timeGet a Goldwing and Camper like Dougie Bear??
Have a cell/smart phone? Around noon while having a casual lunch you start thinking about where you want to spend the night and start making calls and reservations. This way, your schedule is loose enough you can go where you want, see what you want, but not so tight you feel rushed.I wanna ad-lib, but being the height of tourism travel (July) I don't wanna get stuck. I've done it before, sucks. The desk clerk says "I think there's some rooms in the next town or two, good luck!".... don't like that game! ...don't like Interstates much either. Dilemma

Now go dual sport and pack a hammock or tent and do some stealth camping....
Now that would be some Interstate to remember!Depends on the Interstate....not all are congested
I hear ya, point taken and Thank you (U guys R awesome!). Needing 3, or most likely 4 rooms/nite may kill this idea. That is a whole different ballgame than the one or two room gig/nite.Have a cell/smart phone? Really!? That sounds awesome. Us boys will love that. Rest up and get better buddy, we'll be taking your butt up on this one!KJ, I'll try and keep an eye on this thread, as time grows closer to your night stay east of Cleveland. The Willoughby Brewing Company is less than a quarter mile from your hotel.
Is this still the itinerary? Step 13, Co Springs to N Platte via RMNP is going to be a loooong day. RNMP is a great drive and I highly recommend it, but it's 35 MPH through the park and this will be peak season. Expect slower speeds due to lookey-loo's gawking at elk, moose, butterflies, rainbows, etc. I drive it several times every summer and I still like to stop and look around at some of the pull-outs or the Alpine Visitor Center.Itinerary as it stands to this writing 12.20.14 (Destinations are pretty much set; as I have done a lot of work in finding the affordable lodging, these towns/destinations fit that bill w some of the nights under $50 bananas.

I hear ya DenverFJR, we know we have a lot on our plate, that RM Pkwy just looked to cool to not include. We'll be up and riding by at least 6am, sometimes it may have to be sooner! Good thing I have a RDL on orderIs this still the itinerary? Step 13, Co Springs to N Platte via RMNP is going to be a loooong day. Guessing you guys will be pretty "seasoned" by this time but I estimate this to be at least a 12 or 13 hour day, door to door, after factoring in food, gas, and photo-op stops.
