Room rates for SWFOG

I just got emails from the two motels that would be best suited for SWFOG and I am not happy with the prices. The Courtyard by Marriot and the Best Western came in at $169+ tax per night. I asked if they would lower the rate and they would not. I will go with the Courtyard property as it is much nicer and has ammenities we can use IF the price is not a big problem. The cheaper motels in Page did not have restaurants or a bar and were not as nice. Please voice your opinion as soon as possible as I need to give a response by 6-11. Blindsided, Burk

Badcat Burk, fjrchik may have the answer with three people to a room! I followed her link; text and pictures show queen bed, twin bed and a roll away bed; so conceivably each room can sleep three of the same ***; or, whatever SkooterG is!!!

So works out to approximately $60+ a night, certainly not deal breaker to have a fun weekend with our FJR Forum Crazies!

Seems some what weird. I checked in on Sept 23 for a nite at $118.00 per nite senior rate. Are they adding something for us that I don't know about.

If they are stuck at $169 then OK, but I'm not arriving early or staying late.

Which dates are the quotes for? If my link is to the right place, then moving it to the first weekend of October does lower the price, even more so if you show up on Thursday ($139). Just a thought to keep it more affordable for folks. If that's not possible, that's cool. Your the man Burk and with this much notice, hopefully I can swing it.

I'm up for room sharing, no problems with that: Ex-Army! eeksnake: I know that you know Skooty just as well as I do! He would be sickly into restraints, his favorite quote: "Sticks and stones may break my bones, but whips and chains excite me!"

A sizeable portion of the Western FJR Forum long distance riders such as eeksnake, SkooterG and others will be competing!!

Ouch! You got that right. If we're talking about the same Best Western, they only charged me a $79 walk-in rate last September, and that's about what it was worth. Maybe $99 max.

Hey guys and gals, while the Courtyard is an ideal place with a restaurant, bar and can handle our Saturday banquet I am set back by the price. Please keep in mind Page is not a very large town and there are only a couple of places that have what the Courtyard does. The rate I received was from their corporate office. I keep finding lower rates for the same motel online which is aggrevating. I am giving up on Best Western as one location has not returned my calls and the other put me on hold for 15 minutes and then told me they didn't know who could help me. I hate to have someone not attend because of the high room rate but the pickings are slim. The Quality Inn is sold out on those dates.

Sharing rooms is a good idea. I for one will be looking for a roommate.

I really don't want to move the date as September 24th thru 27th has been the popular choice.

My goals for a host motel are to find one that has a restaurant and bar or is very close to one and has an acceptable nightly rate. This has become a high order!

I am sure I can find a budget place but we will have to travel for meals,etc.

That's the place and it is very nice. I just wish the price were better. I will need a roommate also, but you gotta keep your hands to yourself!

You would think so....I searched rates for this motel and keep getting $139 to $169 from different sites. I will email the Marriot person again and ask but she was pretty firm in her quote.

Ok guys and gals I did a priceline bid (we are under no obligation) and here is the result I got back. The only problem is we would have to pay up front. I asked for 20 rooms and I have not found if I need to fill them all to get the price. I would also go the roommate route as a first choice to help kee the cost down. As an alternative, we can go the priceline (or other comprable site) route once we figure out how many rooms we really need. If this is an acceptable route and people wish, I will persue this. Thanks Burke for doing all the legwork you have so far, and again, I do not mean to overstep.

No worries, Mate. If you can get anywhere with Best Western go for it. It does say that we have to use 100% of the rooms. Do all the rooms have to be paid upfront or do we make individual reservations?

I just realised that I made these for Wed the 23 leaving Sat the 26th , so I will have to redo this with an accurate room request

As an alternative to this, how do the masses feel about self booking using a hotel site like priceline?
