Unless I missed it I didn't see anyone mention riding to the Lake of the Clouds in the Porkies outside of Ontonagon, MI

Porcupine Mtn Map

If your gonna ride up to Copper Harbor I would think you'd want to hit this area while your up there as well.
From what others have told me GR, you would be correct Sir. Riding around Porcupine is on the agenda for Sunday morning, as stated in my previous post. And the one place I just HAD to see as recommended by a co-worker, who is a UP native, was the Lake of the Clouds. I've never been up there, but looking forward to it.

Sorry I didn't see you post that. If you take some pictures of the area & Lake Superior shoreline please post a few and share them I'd like to see them.

I was in Munising, MI for Forth of July fireworks 5yrs ago. That whole area on the Lake is really cool. The Pictured Rocks National Lakeshore just east of Munising is another must see spot. I think most of the roads out to that area is dirt however. I just remember the water next to the cliffs was an emerald green...it looks more like the Carribean than Lake Superior.

Here's a shot of "Miners Castle" (Area Map) that I took in that area. Might be worth a ride down a dirt road to see in person. Not sure you can make it that far or not. Just another option for ya.

Doesn't look like I'm going to make this one, bummer. You guys have a good ride.
It's too bad you and Gramps won't be able to make it Phil. I'd like to say you guys will be missing out on some awesome twisties and fantastic views, but I can't. Never been up to that area myself.

The way this RTE is shaping up, I might be the only one going. I'll look at it as a recon mission then, take a few photos, check out a few roads, and then post up.

Always better when done with others, but how could it be bad if I'm still spending the weekend on the bike.

I wish I could go Mike. I have spent a lot of time up there & know the area pretty well. I went to college (Mich. Tech.) there & my wife's family lives in Houghton, we visit a couple times a year.

Have a great trip.

Hey mike if when you get around the Watersmeet area look up Youper Dick.. Great guy who I'm sure will be willing to show you a few nice spots.. I'll pm you his email addy..

Jeez Marc.. I didn't realize Mi Tech had an animal husbandry program :dribble: Then again your time was back in the Stone Ages. My how things change

For anyone going on this ride, be aware that an event called the Mackinac Bridge Walk is on Monday, 9/3. It COMPLETELY screws up crossing the bridge, at least in the morning. The wife and I did not know this 3 years ago and we got caught up in a traffic jam.

FUZZY BALLS! A complete and total clusterfuck for about 4 hours..

Damned fools, wanting to walk that 5 mile span, need their heads examined. :dribble:
