Ain't that always the way it goes OC? :)))
Just like when the GF takes a trip to Europe. She's never quite the same when she comes home.

I'm sure the road crew will update when they can, but a FB post by Mike just after 1pm shows the bike on the trailer and headed home.

This has been a truly epic journey; for Mike, for Isabella, for the forum, for motorcycling.

On the trailer?!? Why put a perfectly running FJR on a trailer??

Well said!

Pregnant?
Not mine, but that was years ago and she came back with a STD and a lot kinkier than when she left. Thankfully she didn't share the STD and it was curable. There's more to that story, but I aint telling.
STD...that a French-version of a Ducati? How'd she managing dealing with customs?

Allright, it is done. I will let the pics talk.

Hppants with the camera, Aaron the mechanic in the dark fleece and Patriot with the white FJR shirt.

And thanks to all of you, here is the most important one.

Glad we could collectively provide for a happy ending to this saga. Hopefully this engine will run for another 100k or more.

There are more pics and hppants took way more than I did. We cannot rush hppants, he had much to do before he could get on the forum to post pics.

It is a 90 minute drive for hppants to get to my (wife's) house, I am only 3 minutes off I-10 so I am not far out of the way. He was here at 7am, we fueled the GMC and headed to Patriot's house in Metairie. Then, north to Tylertown MS. Aaron the mechanic was extremely happy to see us. He already knew about this forum, we explained to him that not just the entire country, but indeed the entire world wanted to see what he looked like. We told him that folks in Europe, the UK, Australia and yes, even Greece (Yes, Mihalis, you have left your mark here!) were following this thread and we had a responsibility to them all.

He was very patient with us and helped us load everything. I was backing the GMC up to the old engine and thought that I would get one side to lift it into the truck. To my horror and astonishment, Aaron lifted the engine off the pallet and waited for me to back the truck up to him. Now I usually don't have any issues moving things, whatever I grab generally goes where I want it to, but that impressed me. I decided I did not need to arm wrestle Aaron any time soon.

We had a nice lunch at Nyla's Burger Basket, and drove back to Patriot's where we unloaded the bike and snapped a few pics of Mike on Isabella. A quick refuel of the GMC, and we headed back home.

Hppants and I had a couple of unpleasant arguments over the diesel and the lunch bill. Such a nice fellow usually, pants, he was really obstinate today. I put 359 miles on the GMC today, I averaged 17 mpg. It is about 55 miles from here to Patriot's. Pants drove 90 minutes to get to me and had the same 90 minute drive back home. Pants paid for lunch, I covered the diesel, Pants has the engine to dismantle and store for the forum.

You guys fire away now. I feel pretty good about my day. At Hppants insistence, I called my Dad, we are meeting Pants in the morning for a ride. I just finished washing the bike, I hope you all are enjoying your lives like I am enjoying mine right now.

Oh, and I want to assure every one of you that by lending your support here you have all done a good thing. I don't just mean the financial part of it, I mean all of the encouraging posts, the kind words, it was all important. Patriot may not express himself in exactly the right way, but in my humble opinion, he was worth it all. This was worth doing and you all did it. My compliments and my thanks to all of you.

amazing day...everything works (there's a loose wire to reattach for the headlights)

it was a hell of a lot of fun riding the bike even just around the block...then I headed with my basset to my baby daughter's softball game in my van

so here's what again is amazing...

as of this afternoon (not that people died of course), I'm serving two funerals tomorrow (Sat) which makes for a 250mi day...Sunday, have a PGR Crawfish Boil 15mi away I can ride to...and got a from a wife that her active duty soldier husband died from PTSD after doing 2 tours in Afghanistan, and would I come to honor him at his funeral Monday.

so, I'm back to work at what I do best, and it's because of you

the most frequent frustration and anger and brokeness I was feeling when the bike grenaded and affected my PGR participation so much,

was the 5 comments from 5 different ladies many months apart:

immediately after a funeral of a KIA...Mothers who just buried their sons make every effort to find me, hug me, cry on my shoulder, and say "Thank You for being here...You Made this Day easier for me"...

and I think that on this lady's most horrible day of her life, what I and my PGR platoon did, just showing up, made this dear lady's day easier. So that what and why I do what I do. And that is what each of you, DIRECTLY, have made possible to continue to happen over the months and future to come as it's needed, and when it's needed...

Long day for Pants. But it was a great one. How about a ride report without much riding?

Out the door at 5:30 am, I cage it to Redfish Hunters and drive up to his door exactly on time for our 7:00 am meet up. We decided to go in R/H’s truck, the GPS says we’ve got a long way to go.

We get to Mike’s safely, where we are greeted with this. A place for everything, and…. Holy Crap, this place is a mess!

isabella2_zps86ee411f.jpg

Mike’s got some great memorabilia hanging on his walls. Who remembers this gem?

isabella3_zpsc5797ebc.jpg

Or this one?

isabella4_zpsad84f2c7.jpg

Well, enough of that – we’ve got a bike to grab. The traffic on the slab is clear, that Duramax is singing along effortlessly.

Redfish’s flapping his beak about something…

Patience, my friend. It’s almost time!

One pit stop on the way, with a nice cup of Joe…

… before we press on to the Promise Land.

Aaron works on all kinds.

We walked around the shop. This baby will need a lot of work before it’s returned to any glory.

In the storage shop, I find a lot of eye candy.

This is a Tariff Buster (700cc), but I had a 750 just like it. Good bikes, BION.

But we are hear for Isabella.

isabella14_zps2a129de8.jpg

And Isabella we shall have!

Motor looks real good. All seals and gskts are dry. Aaron couldn’t say enough good about the used motor. He said it was well kept waiting for sale and it was packaged extremely well for shipment. He also complimented Fred and all of you for sending all of the seals, o-rings, gskts, and small parts that he needed to do the job right. He said all valves are well within spec, and the compression was also very good. Mike has these numbers to keep with his records.

isabella23_zps2244d765.jpg

Seem’s there’s room for maybe one more….

isabella17_zps684d515f.jpg

Ahhh, that’s better.

isabella19_zps7876efe5.jpg

Aaron’s a good mechanic. He noticed that one of Mike’s throttle cables was getting a little frayed, so he changed it while he was in there. Just so you know, he charged 10 hours of labor at $65.00 per hour to do the motor swap. I thought that was extremely fair.

A picture’s worth 1000 words.
