Just rode home from Bandon on the Oregon coast to Carson City, a 10 hour ride with 8 1/2 hours in the smoke ! It started about Camas Valley and never let up. Between the southern Oregon fires, Redding fire and the Yosemite fire the whole of Southern Oregon and NorCal is up in smoke.I thought I could avoid it by heading for the south east corner of Oregon at 139 but it was brutal, so thick you did not know if the road ahead went left or right. Got home and CC is inundated with smoke blowing over the hill from Yosemite.

Hadn't heard if he did or not. We are still up in Weed. It sounds like they are turning the fire back in Redding for the moment. Lewiston, however, got evacuated

Riding in that smoke can get to you, been there done that. No fun, glad your safe!
I remember the multi-state wildfires in 2000 and 2003. In 2000 was the inaugural NW Passage Rally where the fire was right next to us as we were coming south from the Canadian checkpoint. Roads would open and close on riders trying to get through the area. Some would make it through while others would either have to wait or find a different route. In 2003 was the dusk at 12pm in Missoula, MT at the finish of the IBR.

Smoke from the Cal fires is now moving up into Oregon. Large visible smoke bank to the South while flying in the vicinity of Bend this morning. The Northern edge was somewhere between La Pine and Klamath Falls.

We've had fires all around us in central Washington, but rapid response and favorable conditions have kept the controllable. Hoping you come out of this unscathed. Good thoughts coming your way.

Update time.

When we left yesterday, it was because someone came through the neighborhood saying there was a fire a few blocks up the way (in the direction of one of the only two exits from the sub-division) and when we went out to check out what was going on, all the neighbors were loading **** into cars and trailers at a frantic pace. So we assumed the worst and lit outta here.

We are back at the house, finding that much of the info we were getting from the internet (GASP) was way overblown. House and neighborhood are still standing. We came back to pack more stuff and are planning on leaving to FIL'S again. We are going to shoot video of all the stuff left behind for insurance should we need it. The fire has shifted in such a way that if the winds shift north, we are in it's path. While we are not on mandator evacuation, Michelle's Asthma is reason enough to get the hell outta dodge.

Thanks to all for the good wishes and the offers of help.

Will keep everyone updated and see you on the other side!\
Greg, In Santa Rosa, we spent a week waiting to evacuate. There were flames within sight of our neighborhood. Packed and packed and packed. I photographed the contents of every cabinet, drawer and closet. Also the exterior of the house, storage shed and garage. Many had only moments to flee and now are battling the insurance companies. Hope everything works out for you and you stay safe. Stuff is only stuff. Family and friends are most important.

Things are starting to look a little better for us. They are up to 17% contained of damn close to 100,000 acres and from what I hear, the fire is moving away from Redding. Lewiston, on the other hand is right in the path of the fire. Douglas City and Weaverville are also getting nervous.

We have lost 6, unconfirmed report of a 7th, 7 missing, and close to 600 homes (official estimate, probably closer to 1000 once they have time to count)

Been told that 10 (out of 200 employees) at work have lost homes. One had been at their home for 42 years.

Headed home tonight. We ended up never really being in danger, but you know how that goes.

Many stories of sorrow, joy and people coming together filtering out. Sadly, many more of the same to come as the fire works it's way west (and whatever direction it wants in all reality)

Anxious to get out on the AT and see what's left.

Glad you're headed home. Better to be evacuated without real danger than to find yourself in a really scary situation.

Fingers still crossed because the fire IS NOT OUT.

Nor is it actually close to being out. If you look at the map, it has potential for much mischief.

Relieved to hear you and Michele are safe. So weird watching from across the country and knowing you guys are in harms way. If there is anything Dianne and I can do feel free to contact us.

Thanks for all the love and support, we truly appreciate it.

Don't stop sending that good JUJU, we gonna need every ounce we can get. Next up on the chopping block is Lewiston. Great little mountain burb. I seriously doubt they can save it. Weaverville ain't far behind, Finger crossed for Phil and Charleen that the fire doesn't head their way.

There is not a lot out there to stop this fire from reaching the coast if the weather (winds) acts up. Rugged mountains, tons of fuel to burn.
