Love my FJR but gotta try and Fly the Wing !!

Going to rent a Wing from https://www.californiamotorcycleadventures.com/

Stay in San Fran for a couple days and head north along the coast...

Never been to the Pacific, so I'm extremely excited about this trip :yahoo: , but totally clueless - need guidance !!

I'm not really a huge planner and love to fly by the seat of my pants, suggestions for places to aim for would be a great help, lodging(cool B&B's), site seeing, twisty's, eateries (Love Seafood !) Maybe go as far as Portland over the coarse of the 10 days, who knows... I want to take in some great sites, but also want some chill time too....

TIA

Patrick

As you go further north, you may be interested in exploring the Lost Coast. The roads are lonely and bumpy, but the reward is that you'll get to ride where few ever do, and see the westernmost spot in California. Look for Mattole Road, Honeydew, Petrolia, and Ferndale.

And that's the Norcal coast according to me. Have fun! Let me know when you're in SF, maybe we can get together and I'll sign your Iron Butt witness forms!
I've not been there, but when we were in Fortuna earlier this year they said that the Lost Coast roads are REALLY rough right now. Apparently they have always been low on the maintenance priority list, but with the state budget cuts it sounds like the roads are getting really bad. We were on the FJRs and passed the roads up, maybe even more of a challenge on a Wing?? Everything else sounds pretty fair to me.....

Don't forget Highway 36 - from Fortuna to Red Bluff is motorsickle heaven!

Absorutery!

As are 299, 3, 96.

However...you must promise to NOT tell anyone about these roads and highways. I mean, we're waaaaay out here on the left coast and don't have anything to compare to "The Dragon".

Golly gee... where have I seen that before?

Additional comments below in red. I could go on for days!! ;)

And don't forget Avenue of the Giants! Once up in Fortuna, must do roads include 299, 36, 3, and 96.
Yebbut.....

1) It was said by a girl!

2) I'm old and don't always remember what I've read.

3) Restating a truth isn't a bad thing, no offense to the first responder.

I have flown and rented Wings twice. Great bikes, you will like that big windshield if riding in fog but can be a bit warm in the heat. I used my full face Shoei but removed the shield and used sunglasses.

If you can, borrow from a wing owner the inside bag liners to the hard bags or I believe I saw aftermarket ones in the Jakewilson catalog. Makes hauling you stuff easier OR the FJR bags fit easily in the side bags but you give up some room for packing.

Haven't read every post but be prepared for cold riding along the coast if fog has rolled in. Many great roads up that way, have fun!
