Hey guys..

I did 300 miles on Sunday.. longest ride for me on my FJR so far. Needless to say the stock seat has to go.. I've done my research and am all but convinced I want a Sargent seat. Wondered if anybody had any pictures of this seat installed on their bike? I've got a 2010 silver FJR and am trying to figure out it the silver piping on the seat looks good or not.

Thank you much..

Here ya go...with the silver welts even!

I can go 2-300 miles before any butt burn sets in and did an SS1000 last Oct. on it....and was definately ready to get the eff off the bike by then. I can't compare it to stock though, it was on there when I bought the bike.

I almost forgot, I switched the rider's seat for a stock one with a guy at work who bought an 06 like mine. Compare and contrast!

Don`t waste your money , save your money & buy a Russell. I have a Sargent on my 07 (just the front, that i bought used) & looking next year for the switch. If it wasn`t for the custom bead pad i made, the sarget (to me) is a little better than the stocker (a little widder & stiffer) but does not compaire to a custom made one (too your size)

I also have a 2010 and I just ordered the Sargent with silver piping. I should have it next week and can snap some picture for you then.

I just spent a week researching seats myself and absolutely no disrespect to Roadstar, but you will find no shortage of opinions on seats on the forum. Many, as him, feel the Sargent is too hard, and I have corresponded with others who have spent all day on that seat for multiple consecutive days and said they were comfortable. For the record everyone does seem to agree the Russell is the most comfortable seat. For me I felt the Sargent was the best compromise of what I am looking for.

Search on Corbin, Sargent, Russell (aka day-long), and even Spencers to find which setup might work best for your requirements, type of riding, and even taste.

Actually i don`t mind the hardness of the sargent seat , it`s the way it`s shapped. As it seams to put my legs in a way that must be pinching a nerve or something. (didn`t get that with the stocker) with the beads it gets me off the seat some & helps tremendisly (whew big word) :) As for a Corbin seat , my buddy has one on his 1993 BMW K1100LT with lots of miles on it & i got the chance to use his bike for a weekend & i offered to buy the bike with seat when i got back, since it was super comfortable. :dribble:

There's a Gen 2 front seat in all Black (no silver piping) for sale in the classifieds (hint hint).

I`m sure it`s a good deal (went & checked) I know when i bought my front Sargent seat from a forum member (different site though) i paid $165 shipped this past winter. It was such a smokin deal i had to jump on it (seat is in perfect shape, but only riders portion)

I just got the seat at the last moment. About to hit the road in an hour so a few cell phone picks in my unflattering parking garage will have to do.

how did it go? I bought the Sargent seat last year and was pretty dissappointed, persevered for another year, but I am oing to spend the dollars on the Russell

Just finished an SS1000 & after i get a Russell this winter, my Sargent will be up for sale. :angry2: I`m a truck driver by trade & i do lots of driving (i know it`s different) but , the Sargent seat sure isn`t for my butt. :glare: I even tried running with my home made bead rider, & the last 300mi (out of 1100) was was pure torture.

Yeah, it's definitely not for everyone. That being said, I thoroughly enjoyed min while I owned it. For me it was good for ~700-800 miles then I'd need something different, put the beads on it or an AirHawk. Still that was oh, 550 more than the Stock seat. I attempted the MD2020 in 2007 on my stock saddle with Airhawk and beads as 'modifiers'. At the end of the ride my Sciatic Nerve on my right side was so aggravated/agitated that I could barely walk or get home and it took two weeks of massage therapy to get me walking straight again.

I've owned Corbin's in the past and they were OK, but never put one on the FJR. I also tried two different *Used* Russells and neither fit me right, and the Sargent was better than either of those (for me).

But I recently purchased another used Russell, which fits me much, much better.

A properly tuned Russell or other custom saddle is definitely better, and you get what you pay for.

Still the Sargent (at a good used price) is a good value IMHO.

YMMV

Sargent worked for me. I just got off 7 days straight on the bike, 1700 miles. First day I was on the road for 6 hours, every day after was 8-10. First 600 miles were interstate, and the next 1100 and 5 days were in cumberland falls national park, 129 including tail of the dragon, and then the blue ridge parkway.

I get off pretty frequently, about every hour to hour and a half. If I were to spend 3 straight hours on the bike, don't know that this would be the seat, but I don't know that I could do 3 hours straight on any seat. At any rate, much better than stock, and on the longer sints my knee would start to fatigue more than my ass.

My uncle was on an 08 goldwing and we had very similar ass fatigue.

Hi all, I am also looking at trying on the Sargent seat. If anyone want to sell and are willing to freight it to Singapore, please PM me. Btw I am riding a 2010 model.

Regards, Heng

I'm just about to pull the trigger on a Sargent as well. I know it's petty and I'm probably giving up comfort by not going with the Russell. I just can't get past the look of the day-long. It's about the ugliest darn thing I've ever laid my eyes on. I'll never say never though. If the Sargent doesn't do the trick, I may ultimately end up with a Russell. Truth is... I'll never put the miles on mine that would warrant the Russell seat. I would imagine that the most I'll ever do in one shot would be about 600 miles.

I've owned my FJR for just three months and have only logged 2900 miles on it so far...but I can already tell that the stock seat is not as comfortable as I would like it to be. That being said:

I have to wholeheartedly agree with that statement. I'm not doubting that the Russell Day-Long is the bees-knees as far as comfort goes, but it's just so goofy looking. The FJR has such clean lines, and that seat just ruins the clean look. That's just my humble opinion, of course. I'll put a lot more miles on the stock seat, but eventually I'll get a Sargent seat or something with a similar clean look. My R1100RT-P has the BMW "comfort seat" which has been very comfortable for the 97000 miles I've put on it (including a SS1000); from the photos it looks like the Sargent has a somewhat similar seating area. I think I'll be fine with that.

Well I now use a Corbin set and after a WV run know it is not my LD seat. I should have my Sargent today. Will report back after some miles. The Corbin set is on my 10 and it is the tits in twisty's and short hops, just not a LD seat. I do love it but if the Sargent sits better for distance the Corbin will be offered up reasonably for sale. I love it's shape and it can go 300 miles for me no issues, after that not so good.

I have ridden a Russel on my LT and yes it is the best. However on a 950 # bike I really did not move around on the seat and to me that is the issue with them I dont think you can react and get out of the pocket/bucket fast enough. So I will try the Sargent for a bit. Also every Russel I have seen shows wear on the left side welt at the front with a wrinkle on the side from putting your left foot down at stops. I am a one footer, right is always on the brake, left down at stops. It pissed me off. Tho only place it showed any issues after 34,000 miles on the LT.

May turn out that a Corbin with 2000 miles and a Sargent with less will be in the classifieds for great savings to someone, but I hope only the Corbin.

We will see after I get it today.
