I have a CD from the California Highway Patrol’s Information Services Unit containing ten years worth of statewide motorcycle-involved accident data (1994 to 2004) from their Statewide Integrated Traffic Records System (SWITRS). The SWITRS processes all fatal and injury traffic collision reports from all police agencies in California. The CD contains over 100,000 motorcycle-involved accidents.

I have already analyzed the data for two articles published in Friction Zone (FZ) magazine, one looking at rush-hour accidents; the other looking at alcohol involvement. They can be seen here:

Rush Hour Accidents

Alcohol Involvement

However, I have yet to complete the project that really interests me, which is to analzye the data for overall trends, with the goal of identifying trends that may help motorcyclicts improve their safety strategies.

It is a huge project, involving massive Excel and Access files. Is there a motorcyclist Data Wonk out there who would like to collaborate with me in analyzing this data? I have limited Access skills, so I think that's a must.

The product would be an article to be published in FZ (if Amy is still interested), or we could approach a major M.C. publication. Although I got paid for the FZ articles, don't jump into this for the money, 'cause there's no guarantee of that.

Please let me know!

Thanks!

Jb
