Sell the FJR, or will a PCIII fix the throttle?

I am honestly getting tired of lurching out of turns, so much so that I'm losing love for my bike... Several time I have had such a burst that I was sure my next stop was gonna be in someone's passenger window! I know, "buy the PCIII and it will be like you dumped Viagra in the tank", blah, blah... but I don't want to believe that you HAVE TO SPEND $300+ ****** dollars to make this bike perform like it should. that is ********.
That KLR is looking mighty fine right nowwww (attention Yamaha...)

Rant over for now... thanks for listening...

This must be a problem they sorted out with the 08A, because I am not experiencing anything like you are describing. It has a little more driveline lash than I would like but the fuel injection is spot on. Maybe you can get an 08 throttle tube and ECU.
I purchase my 06 and sold my K1200RS and after dealing with the 06 throttle on/off condition, I am ready to purchase my old bike back.

I'll give you a hundred for the piece of crap since it is sooooooooooooooo bad.

A simple fix for not being able to handle the twisties with your FJR is to get a Husqvarna 510SMR. They're cheap @ $7200+/- and an additional $1000 for the Power Up kit and Power Commander. Almost doubles the HP from stock and those turns just disappear!

Do the 08's have these issues with throttle smoothness? or was this a characteristic particular to certain model years?
I didn't see anyone answer LC Joe's question so I will. I have an 08 and it does have a sharp on/off throttle response. I can't say it's any better or worse than previous year models. In most riding situations it's not a problem, but it can make stepping through the gears a bit choppy. The area where it is a real problem is when you're exiting a tight turn and you're looking for that stablizing accelaration but instead the bike balks at your throttle request - very frustrating.

Like Bokerfork, I've managed to work with it but I don't change my shifting practices, but I keep the revs up when I'm running the back roads so I'm probably working it in similar fashion. I blip my throttle a bit before getting off the clutch; its' similar to engine breaking situations where you're trying to match engine and wheel speed but not as aggressive. I'm not advocating this as fix, it is a problem and it is dangerous.
This is interesting in that it does show the differences in riders opinions of the bikes and what is needed. I'm sure there are differences in each bike, settings etc. just as there are in the riders and their styles that ride them. On my 06 I still run the stock exhaust and no PC III and have the G-2 and did the spring un-wind one turn with no issues whatsoever. But that's just me.

I have read posts on the 08 FJR that are just the opposite of this response in that the 08 owner said the throttle problems of the 07 and 06 were eleminated on the 08 and that the PC III was totally unneeded unless one added an exhaust ect. Maybe one should take a poll on the new 08 riders problems or issues with their bikes compared with the known problems on the 07 and 06 models? Just a thought....PM. <>< :dntknw:

No sign of surginess or throttle abruptness on my 08. Even at low RPMs it's smooth as can be at part throttle. Easier to ride in the twisties than a lot of smaller bikes. These things are rock solid!

This is the first bike I've had that doesn't need modification to run right. I've had a couple of Kawasaki sport bikes and a Suzuki Bandit 1200. All required rejetting to run right. You can thank our EPA for that. They were just too restricted from the factory. This is my first injected bike, and it seems like they got the electronics and the injection right. I recall reading somewhere that the fuel injection was remapped for 08.

My guess is that motorcycles are evolving technologically in the same way that cars have. The last years of carburation were crap and you had to screw with them to get any reasonable performance. The first years of electronic fuel injection were better, but it still took a few more years to get it right. The bikes are just now getting refined enough that the power delivery is smooth under all conditions without flat spots. Yamaha isn't the only one. The BMWs boxers are finally free of surging with their latest generation, but were sure plagued with lots of surging problems that couldn't be tuned out on the earlier models.

Personally, I just wouldn't sweat it if I had to put a programmer on an earlier generation bike, since I've had to rejet and retune everything else I've owned. Now, with that being said I'm sure glad I don't need to do anything to this one as far as tuning goes. So far, I put on Heli bar risers, frame sliders, and did the return spring mod, but don't feel the need to do any engine mods.

This is, by far, the most refined bike I've owned, and I'm truly impressed.

The next bike you buy might be the same for you, but I wouldn't sweat having to tweak on your present mount to get it right.

My 2¢ YMMV
