Man I sure hope I'm making the right choice. I LOVE my Futura and feel there is no finer ST bike for 1 up riding, but its short wheel base and slightly agressive seating position make it less than ideal for a pillion. So with todays decision Im selling it so my GF can join me on more rides.

Looking at a 2009 black FJR1300 owned since new by the parts manager on a local dealer. It comes with a Yamaha rear trunk, throttle meister and all the oil changes and service have been done by his dealership.. Bike is cosmetically perfect, but is showing 50K on the odo. He says he will take $8k . How do we feel about that price for that many miles..... and what about 50K miles?

Thanks

50k is nicely broken in. Many FJR's are well beyond 150k and running good. Price is whatever you are comfortable with.

I would be more comfy paying $6K, but that aint gonna happen. With 50K on the clock I know the engine iw fine, but what about the suspension?

With that mileage, the price is a little steep...take another $1000 off and you're getting close.

If the bike is still on stock suspension, it is most definitely tired. Figure on freshening up the forks and replacing the shock as a minimum.

There are plenty of good buys out there, be patient and the right one will show up. Good luck with the search!

I had a Futura, put 70k on that before switching to an FJR, FJR is better for me- less pain in the back and wrists. Although did manage a BBG on the Ape the BBG on the FJR was more comfortable :)

50K is not a big deal, but you can get a very low mile '08 for about the same money, and a low mile '09 for just a bit more.

While 50K isn't a lot of miles for a FJR it's still 50,000 miles.

I just bought a 2008 Black with 2,900 miles for $9,500.

If he says he'll take $8,000 he'll probably take less.

I'd offer him $7,500 if you really want it, or look for a lower mileage one.

Most places say the stock shock isn't rebuildable. You can get a Wilbers or Works for a price that won't make your heart stop. If you have the dosh, a Penske or Ohlins is also an option. You'll pay more than for a stock shock (but not much with a Wilnbers or Works) but end up with a much better handling bike. And rebuilding a stock shock still leaves you with just a stock shock performance.

What do these things REALLY weigh? For comparision my brother and I both weighed our bikes at the dragstrips digital scale with full tanks of gas and the saddle bags removed

Aprilia Futura 535lbs

BMW K1200S 545lbs

650 and you'll feel every pound of it on the stock suspension, especially with 50K

Had a friend with a Futura which he loved...until a contest of acceleration with my porky Feej came up..

Best my fat 240 butt could get the Futura down the 1/4 miles was an 11.62. The bike with its short wheel base is a wheelie machine and I'm not into clutch abuse. In the twisties I'm sure the lil Aprilia would dominate the FJR. The Futura is a great bike, me and the GF just need a bit more wheelbase for 2 up riding

Any Gen II machine is going to be the same basic bike right? I don't mind going to an older bike with lower miles. Are all Gen II bikes ABS? Ive never had ABS on a bike and it isnt a deal breaker for me, but given a choice I think I would like to try it

Get a 2008+ FJR. All issues were completely fixed with the 2010 model. $8,000 seems a bit high for 50k miles.
